The connectivity between two major cities of Maharashtra, Mumbai and Nagpur, has become smoother and shorter as The Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg also known as the Mumbai Nagpur Expressway is now operational. It will run through 392 villages, across 10 districts and reduce the traveling time to seven hours between the two cities.
- The Samruddhi Mahamarg has six tunnels and one of them is Maharashtra’s longest tunnel. Built using the ‘New Australian Tunneling Method’, the longest tunnel has a lifespan of up to 100 years. 7.74 km on the right and 7.78 km on the left, the 3-lane double tunnel is 35 meters wide. While presently the time taken to cross the Kasara Ghat is around 20 to 25 minutes with this tunnel the time taken will be reduced to 5 minutes.
- The highway is 505kms, Total time taken from the start of the highway to the Nagpur exit is 9 to 11 hours.
- Driving Limit is 120 kms per hour. Total distance from Mumbai to Nagpur via the expressway is 745 kms.
- The total highway toll is 900 Rs. ( on the Mahamarg)
- Lots of animal crossings and lots of accidents as the smaller cars cannot handle the speed limit.
- 2 Wheelers not allowed.
- No food options currently on the way as it is still under construction.
- The exit are at various points before Nagpur.
