I was on a trip to a beautiful place in Karnataka which is "Chikkamagaluru", but before that decided to explore the gorgeous ancient temple of Halebidu located in Hassan city called Hoysaleshwara temple founded by the Hoysala empire.
Hoysaleswara temple is a 12th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Hoysaleswara Temple is in Halebidu, previously called Dorasamudra. The city got the name Halebidu because it was looted and sacked twice and never regained its former glory. Halebeedu old house/old ruins.
Dorasamudra became the established capital under King Vishnuvardhana and served as the capital of the Hoyasala Empire for nearly 300 years. The Hoysala Empire and its capital Dorasamudra were invaded, plundered and destroyed in the early 14th century by the Delhi Sultanate armies of Alauddin Khilji and Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq one after another. The Hoysala kingdom came to an end in mid 14th century, when King Ballala III was killed in a war with the Muslim army of the Madurai Sultanate. After, the territory later falls into the kingdom of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The Hoysaleswara temple is a twin temple, that has two sanctums (garbha griha), both with Shiva linga. One sanctum is dedicated to "Hoysaleswara" Shiva (the king) and the other to "Shantaleswara" (the queen, Shantala). The temple had towers on top of each sanctum, but they are now missing.
The temple was carved from soapstone. It is notable for its sculptures, architecture, and history. Hoysaleshwara temple is proposed to be listed under UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
