A road trip to Madhya Pradesh ( MP ) was on a bucket list from a long time. MP is a state which has spirituality ,history ,scenic places and also a foodie haven
Our road trip began with our first halt at Maheshwar . The sleepy temple town alongside the Narmada river famous for its benevolent and just ruler Ahilyabai Holkar and its Maheswari Sarees.
Next day we drove to Mandu perched along the Vindhya ranges which is a history buffs delight with heritage structures like Roopmati Palace , Jahaz Mahal, Hindola Mahal
From Mandu we drove to Ujjain via Omkareshwar. Both are pilgrimage places with temples dedicated to Lord Shiva . The night halt was at Ujjain
Our next destination was the Sanchi Stupa a World Heritage site by UNESCO . There are 3 stupas in the precints. The 1st Stupa was originally built by Emperor Ashoka . Next halt was the Udaygiri Caves at Vidisha which has Gupta period rock cut caves
Bhojpur near Bhopal is claimed to have the biggest Shiv Ling -22 feet built in 1010-1055 by Raja Bhoj.
After visiting the temple we drove to another UNESCO World Heritage Site The Bhimbetka Rock shelters. There are 700 Rock shelters out of which 15 rock shelters are for public viewing
Final destination was Indore the foodie city . Places to see are the Rajwada, Chattris of erstwhile rulers and places to eat are Chhapan Dukan & Sarafa Bazar
After 9 days of touring MP it was time to drive down to Mumbai
