Located beside the Kshipra River in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. 55km from Indore city, it is an important Hindu pilgrimage destination, it’s known for the centuries-old Mahakaleshwar Temple.
You can take either bus or train from Indore. And from the rest of India train is better as almost all the trains passing by Ujjain has halt here. I took the train from Indore
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the twelve Jyotirling. The temple is situated on the side of the Rudra Sagar lake. It is near to the Ujjain railway station.
According to the Puranas, there was a five-year-old boy Shrikar who was enthralled by the devotion of King Chandrasena of Ujjain towards Lord Shiva. Shrikar took a stone and started worshipping as Shiva. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Shiva assumed the form of a Jyotirlinga and resided in the Mahakal forest. The presiding deity, Lord Shiva in the lingam form is believed to be Shawambu, deriving currents of power.
I visited it on the last Monday savaan month, so there was a huge crowd. It took me nearly 4 hrs for the visit.

Dedicated to kaal Bhairav, is located on the banks of the Shipra river is one of the most active temples in the city. Liquor is one of the offerings made to the temple deity.
You can take auto from the Mahakaleshwar temple to kaal Bhairav. Outside the temple vendors sell the offerings including the licensed alcohol.
About 78km from Indore city, situated on an island named Shivapuri in Narmada is an another Hindu pilgrimage destination with one of the 12th Jyotirling.
You can take the bus from Mahakaleshwar as it is nearly 138km and 4-5 hrs journey. I took bus from Indore it nearly took 3 hrs to reach Omkareshwar. You will find the bus for Omkareshwar from Nawalakha bus Stand Indore.
To reach here, first off all one needs to take auto from the bus stand to the old bridge(Omkareshwar) then cross the bridge by foot and reach the island.
The temple is on the island shaped in the form of 🕉.
Take the holy bath in the Narmada and then carry the holy water to temple barefoot.
History of the jyotirling-
According to the Hindu scriptures, once upon a time, there ensued a great war between the Devas and Danavas , in which the Danavas won. This was a major setback for the Devas who then prayed to Lord Shiva. Pleased with their prayer, Lord Shiva emerged in the form of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and defeated the Danavas.
It's another jyotirling on the opposite side of Omkaleshwar jyotirling. There is a jhula pul over the River Narmada connecting both the Mahadev temples.
The correct name of the Mamleshwar temple is the Amreshwar temple. It is a protected Ancient Monument with good architectural stone work.

Built by the Holkars of the Maratha Empire about two centuries ago. This seven storied structure is located near the Chhatris.
During my visit it was under repair so couldn't explore the whole palace but it is said to be beautiful and fine example of royal grandeur and architectural skills.
known for its size than antiquity, this temple houses very large idol of Ganesh measuring 25 feet from crown to foot. Created as a result of a dream to an Avantika (Ujjain) resident Shri Dadhich, it was built in 1875. The idol has a most interesting configuration of ingredients: bricks, lime stone, masala made of Gud, methi dana, soil collected from seven moksha puris: Ayodhya, Mathura, Maya, Kashi, Kanchi, Avantika, and Dwaraka, mud from stables of horse, elephant and cow, the powder of Pancharatna and the holy water from all major places of pilgrimage.
Chappan Dukan (56 Shops) is a must-visit place for all foodies where you can find all street ffood. This street is famous for delicious & cheap snacks and sweets of Indore .Right from 6:00 AM everyday till late in the evenings (around 10:00 PM).This market is abuzz with a huge variety of items - you can have many types of snacks, chaat, sweets, foods, hotdog (banjos), momos, and hot & cold drinks such as coffees, teas, milkshakes, juices, etc.
This place been named as Chappan Dukan, which literally means 56 shops.
Foods which you must try-
famous Johnny Hot Dogs , poha for breakfast coupled with hot sweet jalebis and a hot cup of tea, pani-puri, dahi-puri and bhel.
It is a jewellery market and night street food court located in central Indore. Sarafa is the only market in India which remains as a jewellery market in daytime and food court at night (11pm). It is a tourist attraction due to it's cuisine.
