A day in ever charming Lucerne - SCATTERED EXPRESSIONS...

My trip to Europe in September 2018 was memorable in many ways, topmost being it was my mother's first ever trip to Europe. Switzerland happened to be our second stop after France. Soaking ourselves in the pristine beauty of the Swiss Alps, I had planned a day trip to Lucerne from Interlaken. Having heard and read a lot about this Swiss city I knew it's gonna be a nice lazy walking on the alleys and cobbled path kind of day.

We started a little early in morning having taking the train from Interlaken to Lucerne, which was almost an hours journey. This journey was by far the best train travel I have ever taken as we passed the spectacular panoramic scenery also spotting with those cute village houses along the way. Soaking in the beauty around, in no time we found ourselves already in Lucerne station. Arriving at Lucerne's Central Station, I was super excited like a kid to explore the most beautiful city in all of Switzerland. The beautiful town sitting on the edge of Lake Lucerne walking along was the best one can think of doing and start to explore.

Walking towards the city centre a beautifully ornamented bridge happen to catch my attention and hola! That was the Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge). Build in 1333 and restored in 1994 after a damaging fire the year prior, this happens to be the oldest wood-covered bridge in Europe as you walk past this the gorgeous ornamented interior lined with a variety of paintings (many of which were destroyed by a fire over 20 years ago) will leave you in awe. Surrounded by surrounded by mountains the city comes across as a most picturesque spot for any traveller. It was a perfect sunny day to stroll through Lucerne.

Crossing over the bridge hunger pangs were hitting us hard and all I could see was cute restaurants with outdoor seating, nothing more perfect to enjoy a drink and dig into some flavours. Finding a seat for us the turquoise blue water of the Reuss River and Lake Lucerne felt such soothing. The sun was at its best. Having fisihed our meal as we walked towards the Spreuer Bridge, another wooden footbridge that was built in the 13th century, the enchanting old city walls were just treat for some great idyllic views.

Not forgot to check out the set of dark paintings (known as the Dance of Death) which depict various characters being dragged into 'death', and were painted to remind everyone that death comes for everyone (a bit morbid I know). Eeeerie but a great piece of art. Stepping out of the bridge the local pop-up flea markets caught my attention, but since I just had few hours in Lucerne, walking pass it quickly was a wise decision as we headed to the iconic Lion Monument, a sandstone memorial for Swiss mercenaries who died during the French Revolution.

Lucerne is simply gorgeous and mark my words, each corner of the city will prove you that. It's a perfect walking city. And a little away from city centre is the renaissance style Church of St. Leodegar. Don't miss the Swiss Saint Beatus swinging his sword at a small dragon above his head.

No trip to Lucerne is complete without having a dose of Bachmann ice one of the most exceptional and exquisite. The generous scoops are simply irresistible taste. With all these thigs that I covered I missed climbing the Musegg Wall - four towers are open to the public with spectacular views.

The city makes for a perfect base to explore the Swiss Alps. If you don't have time to able to spend a good amount of time in Lucerne, a day trip for sure is highly recommend.
