I was in Leh with a group of 7 friends and we all were having the time of our lives. During the initial days we decided to visit the shey monastery as we were getting familiar with the weather in Ladakh.
Shey monastery/ Palace is a beautiful monastery located at the hilltop with the views being breakhtaking.
This place is taken care by archaeological survey of India. Monastery are many in numbers situated in Ladakh and this place is one of the many.
You have to climb the stairs and reach up to a place where you will find a Buddhist temple and statue of Gautam Buddha into it.
You can get a nice view of serene ambiance. Photographers delight. Tourist enjoys taking their snaps. They charge you an entrance fee.
How to reach ?
You can plan a day trip to this place and cabs are available throughout in leh to reach this place.
We started little late, as we were just trying to relax after an epic road journey from kargil to leh.
So we decided to reach this place. Mostly a ruins these days but the monastery and the palace after climbing the stairs let us to a wonderful view
The spot is also meant for ardent buddhism followers as well.
Reaching the top you can also view the epic leh city.
The two attractions of Shey are the 3-storey Shakyamuni and the Victory Stupa. That done one can climb to the terrace of monastery (beware the ladder is rickety) and look around for a superlative view of the Indus in the distance and the mountains.
In Leh there are limited but must do places and this is one of them.Be careful as the sun can get a little scorching.
We had lot of fun reaching the top and then capturing the moments with some lovely images.
Images of the shey monastery are attached to give you the feel of the things.
