Few tips: 

1. Avoid light vehicle on road trip to Leh Ladakh
2. Prefer Srinagar highway over Manali Highway to Leh
3. Avoid staying at Sarchu if you're travelling on Manali-Leh Highway. You can halt at Jispa or Keylong. 
4. Drink as much water as you can on your road trip to leh.
5. Avoid black number plate car if you're hiring a car from any dealer. 
6. Places to halt on Manali to Leh highway : Rohtang Pass, Keylong, Baralacha Pass
7. Places to visit in Leh : Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Magnetic Hill, Sand dunes, Sankar Monastery
