The Langkawi Cable Car is one of the major attractions in Langkawi,Malaysia. The cable car ride up to Langkawi's second highest peak of Mt. Machinchang is an exceptional experience that should not be missed.
Entering from oriental village where the tickets (around RM50 per person for non-Malaysians) were available. Ticket costs included entrance to the Sky Dome, a cinema showing simulated roller coaster ride for 10 minutes and Sky Rex, a 3D dinosaur-themed experience. There were 35 normal gondolas total, each gondola can carry six persons at one time. There were 4 bottom glass gondolas and 2 VIP gondolas each with 3 leather seats. The gondolas arrive every 30 seconds.
There were three stations to the ride. Base station is located at Oriental village from where we start. The first ride takes you to the middle station, and then further to the top station. Both middle and top section has circular viewing platforms. The slope in the first section is the steepest in the world. It also had small café selling drinks and snack. A 125 m cable bridge covering around 2km distance and 700 m above sea level on Pulao Langkawi.
At the top(second station) or the viewing platform, offered 360 view of the Island including the blue waters, big mountains, caves and overhanging cliff walls. A lot of people were enjoying the scenic beauty with the magnificent and breath-taking views. Here there was a gift shop and a post office counter also, to buy gifts and write postcards. Entry to the top station was an additional RM5 (per person). We chose to walk approx 15-20 minutes to a steep and narrow trek to the Sky Bridge. Interestingly the bridge had glass windows in between to look down. The experience of the beautiful sight from the bridge was incredible.
A unique experience and a fantastic journey I must say.
