The Kumbalgarh fort most famously known for the birth place of Maha Rana Pratap, is situated about 90Kms from Udaipur in the region called Mewar. Built upon a hill about 1100 meter high, It is one of the best fort that I have ever seen. Built by Rana Kumbha in its courrent form, It still stands tall after many futile and one successful attack on it.

Kumbhalgarh Fort has one of the thickest walls making it difficult to penetrate. These walls were extended upto 30Kms making it one of the longest walls in the world. Due to its elevation and long fort walls, hundreds of kilometers of area was clearly visible.

The fort contained many ruined temple and it is told that it had about 350 temples in it. Majority of which were Jain and the rest were Hindu temples. One famous temple is the Lord Shiva Temple which has a shivling of dimensions around 5-6 feet. The stories are such that it is told that Rana Kumbha was so strong and tall that he used to worhsip the Shivling and would perform offering milk just by sitting on the floor to this tall shivling.

The wilderness around the fort is also conserved and is called Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary.

You can also enjoy the beautiful Aravalli Range which is right across the area.
