Malaysia, truly Asia(n) experience.
This was the first trip together with my husband and we were waiting anxiously for the much anticipated trip..
Being from Goa, I am fond of greenery, waves and clean places. Malaysia fit into the box quite easily.
This Southeast Asian country having quite pleasant and tropicallish climate was what suited our taste, as we didn't want to go too extreme.
We decided our trip would be split in 2 halves: Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur.
Come read through and be a part of our experience of exploring KL..
How to reach here:
We opted for the economical flights from our location: AirAsia.
Kuala Lumpur has 1 airport with 2 terminals which are separated by some distance namely : KLIA 1 and KLIA 2.
AirAsia flights use the KLIA 2 and other Malaysian flights halt at KLIA 1.
It's one of the busiest airports in South East Asia having connecting flights to many eastern countries.
This airport is around 45 kilometers south from the city and the drive is beautiful towards the city: KL.
Places we visited and recommend:
Thean Hou Temple: Its a 6 tiered Chinese temple of Lord Buddha. This magnificent temple draws a lot of crowd around 2 lakhs per year. We visited during the Chinese new year and the temple looked even more beautiful. The view of the city is spectacular from this place, as it is located on a hilly area with clean surroundings. We went here early morning to avoid crowd and get pretty pictures in the morning light.
Petronas Towers: Also known as the Petronas Twin Towers, are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's official definition and ranking, they were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and remain the tallest twin towers in the world. The view of the city is breathtaking from the 84th floor, the highest you can go when you are visiting the towers. You can book your tickets online to have a hassle free entry to the towers. We also sat at the KLCC Park in the vicinity and watched the Petronas lit every minute as it got more darker in the evening.
Bukit Bintang: It is the shopping and entertainment district of Kuala Lumpur. It encompasses Jalan Bukit Bintang and its immediate surrounding areas. Its a vast area of huge malls and eating places. I was literally awestruck looking at them when I reached here. The classy interiors of the malls and luxurious products will leave you spellbound. It was the most gorgeous lane I had ever walked. I have never been to the Times Square - New York, but that view gives you a feel that it might be somewhat similar.
Bird Park: Thousands of colorful birds in free-roaming areas, walk-through aviaries & traditional enclosures. This bird park offers you a view of varied species of birds you might not have seen, so close and so non-vulnerable. There are entry fees involved in this tourist spot. Birds are easy going and do not get bothered by the humans clicking them or posing with them. If you are fond of birds you will love this place and you can easily spend and hour or 2 here and you will not know how time passed by. Flamingos were my favorite, look how pretty they are.
I♥KL: This is the spot which every tourist visits to pose and post it over their Instagram, okay this might not be true in all cases, but i really went there for my gram. I had to stand in a queue to get myself clicked here. They even had a security personnel to allow one person at a time, resulting in no photo bombing. Alas, I didn't pose that well here, so say hi to my hubz.
This is Merdeka square and is right opposite to the area where "I love KL" is set up. Man, look at those roads.
Batu Caves: Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It is dedicated to the Lord Murugan (Kartikeya), is the Hindu God of war. This place is magnificent yet not eye pleasing. This was the only tourist place which i felt was not maintained clean, probably because of the number of Indian tourists it drives every year. You will find a lot of monkeys here and they will definitely try and snatch the stuff you don't pay attention to when you are climbing the stairs up the hill, towards the caves. Climb those stairs to reach up the cave to shed some pounds and see the temples up there too.
There more palces like the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, National Mosque of Malaysia, Aquaria KLCC, National Museum, Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park.
Also you could go to the near by hill station: Genting highlands.
Where we stayed:
We stayed at this amazing 5-star international hotel: Sunway Putra.
Needless to say our stay here was great. It was 3 night stay and was sponsored by my sister-in-law. Its a highly recommended hotel in KL and has good customer ratings.
This hotel has 33 functional floors and huge lift area. Vast breakfast area and even better options of various cuisines. Just loved the amount of desserts they had. The rooms are pretty with good view from the windows of the entire city.
It also has a huge mall connected to it which is owned by the Sunway chain itself. It also had near public transit & the train station close by.
Over all a great experience staying here.
KL has a maritime climate suitable for visiting all year round. Weather conditions are hot and humid, but cool down as and when it rains, keeping the temperature balanced. Temperature ranges from 21 degree Celsius to 33 degree Celsius.
But it's said that May-July is best time to visit.
How to roam around the city:
We opted for Uber most of the times as it was very convenient and the prices were worth it. Most of the drivers are very polite, friendly and guide you well if you happen to ask questions.
You could also take mono-rails and trains if you want to experience them in this country.
Shopping:
Petaling street: Great for first copy product shopping. But be careful of pick-pocketers here. They have a good range of stuff here but they are hugely over priced, so use your bargaining skills very well. I am one of those scared people who just can't bargain, but I tried my best!
Sunway Putra mall: Enormous mall, and super brands. My favorite was Padini among the Malaysian brands. As my visit was during Chinese new year days, every store offered some cool discounts. The quality and prices were up to the mark. And even better was the food we got to eat in this mall, too much variety and excellent taste.
Central Market: This is the best place to buy souvenirs, mementos etc. There is a lot of variety in here and you will find it be better than any other place to buy the touristy stuff. It was a clean and tidy market with warm shop owners.
