For people who love food and are especially into non vegeterian dishes, the lanes and streets around Nakhoda Masjid in Kolkata is a heaven. It would be more so with the holy month of Ramzan going on.
Situated at a point between the Central Metro station and the MG Road Metro station, the Zakaria street is a must for everyone who love mughlai dishes.
I went to this place and the masjid this year after a gap of almost 3 years and needless to say, I was spoilt with choices, be it food or some great photographs. It took me a bit of time to get going for the photographs especially with the huge crowd after these many months. But the steady stream of people who were walking down the street and entering the masjid were kind enough to help me get some frames.
Well, that was short lived, because clearly with the place being filled up with the aroma of freshly cooked tandooris, kebabs and biryani, one cannot concentrate towards any other thing but them. My first stop was Dilli 6, not a big restaurant in terms of look and size but the best when it comes to Malai Afghan Kebab. Followed by that was Taskeen, famous for Chicken Changrezi Kebab.
With my tummy happy and satisfied, I continued with my clicks.
I went inside the masjid, not expecting much of great shots for the first day, but clearly I was wrong. There were people getting ready for the iftar namaz, kids playing around with each other, some just taking a rest after a hard day of fast while some chatting with their friends. Among all the hustle, there was one father-daughter duo spending some time with each other and that gave me some nice shots. I reached out to him, showed him the pictures and he was overjoyed.
For someone who wish to get the real vibe of Ramzan in Kolkata and have the best kebabs in the town, Zakaria street is a must. And these mughlai food are available here throughout the year.
I will be visiting the area quite often now over the weekends especially, till eid 2022. So anyone who wishes to join me, do not hesitate to reach out. We can together have our taste buds tantalized by some juicy kebabs and rooafza.
