When it comes to food and kolhapur there are tons of options to keep your tongue playing with taste buds. Here are the mustest try items and their short description from me being a kolhapur person ! Let's go!
Kolhapuri mutton/chicken with tambda(red) and pandhra (white) rassa!
Amazingly the taste of meat here, you ll find the unique taste in their curries made especially to drink ,the tamda rassa which is slightly spicy whereas to neutralize the same is pandhra rassa made from coconut milk and stock of meat ! This is must must to do list in kolhapur! My suggestions to try this is in restaurants are Apla Azad hotel,Krishna hotel shahupuri,Tej veer, hotel parak, thali in dehati, and many more actually!
Misal
Being the maharashtraian dish,Misal differs slightly the area wise as you travel from one region to other in maharashtra. Kolhapuri misal is served with flat white bread with their distinctive taste of masala.
You can go for this in restaurants named Bawda misal,Phadatare misal,Khanpan uphar gruh,Kalamba misal,Purandar Misal,Vada misal, etc
Bullet chicken barbeque
Yah! Heard it right! This person cooks chicken by the bullet on his side. In fact the barbeque is prepared on the bullet itself. So there are a variety in menus and all you do is order one!
Davangere Loni Dosa
Lip smacking is what I call this dish! All time favorite whenever you are craving for no spicy. The dosa house is the place in kolhapur near Law college which is the best place to have this appetizing dosa's of your lifetime! Full of desi butter,it literally speaks the definition of taste!
Akhha masur with roti
Another delicious yet unique dish found in kolhapur Dhaba's and also nearby areas. This masoor cooked in very different styles is served with huge rotis and rice. Especially found on road or you can say highway side Dhaba's.
Bhel
Well, this is found anywhere on streets in Maharashtra or in north India, but what's unlike in this? So,its necessarily obliged to try The Bhel of Kolhapur for sure! So this is made from local chevda called as bhadang! Lusciously spicy and sweet ! I would suggest the ancestry stop for Bhel called as Raja Bhau chi Bhel. Also,Khabug khau galli !Well as usual you can taste this dish anywhere, you ll find it crisp tasty.
Few more about kolhapur and its uniqueness in next posts to come!!
