In the summer of 2021, we drove to Kodaikanal for a weekend away from the exhausting April heat and humidity. A friend had recommended us this homestay and we were craving to wake up to a mountain view.
If you are somebody who loves waking up to a gorgeous view, read ahead for a virtual tour to 'The Cloudwalks' !
On reaching Kodaikanal, we checked into our room - 'Sunrise room'. The rooms here are tastefully done with pretty rugs as wall hangings and a touch of vintage in their furniture and kitted out with all modern amenities plus a bonus - home cooked food and filter coffee at any hour.
Here's a little room tour for you !
It's the mornings here that elevated our experience to something else altogether. Waking up at dawn, curled up in a blanket with a cup of filter coffee to watch one of the most gorgeous sunrise was an experience like no other. We then enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the garden and got to spend a little time with Niroj to know more about Kodai.
It's these little things we remember about our stay at The Cloudwalk extraordinary sunrise, Niroj giving us a tour of the kitchen garden, delicious home food and watching the twinkling lights on the hills from homes far away before going to bed.

This was our first time checking in to a home stay and we are beginning to understand what it means when they say "Happiness is checking in a Homestay". If you plan to stay here, allow yourself to spend some time with your hosts to know more about them and their home. Also, they will be your best guide to Kodai.
PS - While we stayed in their Sunrise room, they have other options like honeymoon special suite and family room with bunk beds for the kids. So talk to Rajesh or Niroj before you book and don't hesitate to ask anything - they are one of the warmest hosts we have met 🙂
MORE ABOUT 'THE CLOUDWALK':
> The Cloudwalk is owned and managed by a husband-wife duo, Rajesh and Niroj. Kodaikanal has been home to them for eons. Don't forget to spend some time with them.
> It is located about 4km from the Kodai lake which feels a little more than 4 due to the unpaved road particularly for 250m near their home. Watch this for a perspective. It is advisable to reach in the morning so as to get an idea of the road.
> You have to climb a flight of stairs to get to the room and there are no lifts. Just something to remember while packing your luggage.
> It is listed on booking.com but it is the best to call the hosts before you book it through a website.
> We watched the most gorgeous sunrise here. Opt for the sunrise room especially if you want it watch it from your bed.
> You will be staying in someone's home. They are nice to bring your coffee to your room, but there is no room service. Respect your hosts and their home 🙂
