Did you always dream of a holiday, where you'd do nothing all day but laze around, soak in stunning views and eat? A holiday where time would just stand still?
Honestly, it was never my dream, because my holidays are usually cramped with places to visit, dishes to try out, experiences to be had....my checklist is usually ready much before my holiday begins. But my recent trip to Varkala changed all that and allowed me to embrace slow travel like never before.
1. The Drive from Trivandrum Airport to Varkala
There are two routes from Trivandrum to Varkala. One is the highway, and the other is the coastal route.
We took the coastal route and it made all the difference!
As we moved towards Varkala, we were greeted with immaculate white churches, azure sea and backwater views, old forts and Velli tourist village.
2. A Room with a View
We checked into Elixir Cliff Beach Resort and Spa, Varkala. When you check into a room with a sea view this is what you get:
3. Have a photo session with the backdrop of Arabian Sea.
The resort is located on a cliff, and once you go to the edge, you can appreciate the waves crashing down below, and your amazing vantage point. The resort has placed tables and chairs along the cliff to soak in the view, and on our first day here we did just that.
One of our friends hosted a party. We all had an amazing photo shoot with the Arabian sea in the background and the hues of the setting sun.
4. Splash Around in the Pool
The resort has a beautiful pool overlooking the sea. Our second day at the resort was spent splashing around in the pool.
5. Hike to a Private Beach and Enjoy the Serenity
The resort where we stayed had access to a private beach. A path was cut through the cliffs, and a short hike brought us to a serene strip of beach where we could enjoy some quiet time
6. Shopping and Cafe Hopping at Varkala Cliff
Varkala Cliff is the hub of all activities in Varkala. We missed the sunset here, but the vibe is unbelievable and the cafes adorning the narrow path are too cute!
7. A visit to Jatayu Earth Centre -World's Largest Bird Sculpture
We took a day trip to visit Jatayu Earth's centre, which is around an hour's drive from Varkala. The sculpture is massive and awe inspiring, and the ropeway to the top gives great views. It costs around Rs. 500 per person to reach by ropeway. We were late, but it's possible to combine Munroe Island with Jatayu.
Thus, it was a trip where we enjoyed the stay, the surroundings and ventured out just a bit. If you have your own stories of slow travel, share them on Tripoto to earn credits and travel for free!!
