Located in the verdant landscapes of Elanji panchayat, the second highest peak in Ernakulam district - Koorumala, is set to become a major tourist hotspot with the district tourism promotion council (DTPC) taking significant steps towards its development.
As per news, among the plans proposed for this magnificent hilltop, the most exciting one is the construction of a glass bridge that is expected to attract tourists in large numbers.
With its misty mornings and evenings, rugged terrain and tranquil charm, Koorumala is all set to rival the likes of Vagamon as it emerges as a must-visit destination in Kerala for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
What’s in it for you?
The news of the glass bridge project has already sparked curiosity and interest among locals and tourists, with a private player already expressing keenness to spearhead its execution. The DTPC has invited expressions of interest for the project and is in the process of demarcating 1.5 acres of land for its development. It is also working closely with the panchayat and revenue authorities to ensure a smooth and timely implementation.
But the glass bridge is just the beginning of the ambitious plans for Koorumala. The authorities are also exploring various adventure tourism initiatives and activities such as trekking, rock climbing, and an adventure park. The rocky terrain of this region makes it an ideal spot for such adrenaline-filled activities, and the district mountaineering association has been conducting training sessions here since 2010.
How to reach Koorumala:
The idyllic village of Koorumala is nestled just 12 km away from Piravom and 22 km away from the breathtaking Areekal Waterfalls. As the development of Koorumala as a major tourist destination gathers momentum, it is expected to bring economic prosperity to the region, providing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.
