Day 1

We travelled via way of means of bus from Kollam to Kumily and nearly loved lovely perspectives of hills, tea plantations and jungle as we climbed the ghat via way of means of road there are a complete of 9 hair pin turns. Unfortunately for us, our bus driving force appeared to both be jogging clearly past due or simply typically decided to pressure within the craziest manner possible. Arriving in Thekkady we had been welcomed via way of means of a cooling breeze and a small metropolis catering to vacationers who are available in big numbers to look Periyar Tiger Reserve

And were given the lodging at periyar house(PWD) withinside the country wide park.

After lunch We head closer to Ottakathalamedu, simply 6 Km from PTR

Day 2

Nature Walks in Periyar

This was our favorite way to explore a small part of Periyar with Ganesh my friend working in PTR who took us for an early morning walk to Periyar National Park. Yes, we have entered the tiger reserve. Periyar is unique in India because it is one of the few parks that the public can enter. Only a small area of the park can be explored on foot  and the walks are well guided. We saw lots of birds, were shown different types of plants and had a chance to experience the tranquility and beauty of the forest early in the morning. We came across a herd of hungry (and obviously grumpy!) Byson (wild buffalo) who had started fighting among themselves. We retreat quickly, marveling at the noise and energy. Nature walks are one of Periyar's community tourism initiatives. One of the best things about them  is that they support the tribal communities that live around the Periyar National Park. The guides are often from these tribal villages, and the hikes provide employment and direct financial benefits of tourism to the park.

Rafting  Periyar Lake

As an alternative to the noisy and popular boat ride, another option is to raft across the lake  on your own bamboo raft. The rafts leave  around 9.30 am and capacity is limited so book early! Can be book from PTR official website via online. The rafts are accompanied by two guide and an armed  ranger. If we return to Periyar, this would be our preferred way to explore the lake.
