Day 1

I was having 7 days with me to explore KERALA- God’s own country. It was very short time to discover whole state including all major tourist destinations with their unique nature, culture, traditions, etc. If you wanna explore in detail, then it takes 2-3 weeks to be there and it was not possible for me who is having full time job from 9 to 5 with minimal leaves.

I am doctor by profession but nature lover by heart. So I decided to explore only the nature of Kerala. To explore culture and traditions, I thought that i can visit it next time.

To be with nature, is my most favourite activity. Therefore, here I am gonna describe the detailed itinerary of Kerala trip, which will include all the major and most picturesque places of God’s own country. Kerala offers all types of nature from mountains to lakes, from river to beach. It also has the dense forests and wildlife sanctuaries. What an unique culture of backwaters, it has ! It is called as ‘Venice’ of India, due to culture developed on backwaters. This part attracted me the most to visit Kerala. Here, we go ...

DAY 1 : ATHIRAPALLY WATERFALLS

Since I watched Tamil-Telugu movie BAHUBALI, I desperately wanted to visit it. So I planned overnight journey from Ahmedabad to Athirapally and reached there around 8 am. I took flight from Ahmedabad to coimbture. After reaching coimbture,I headed towards it’s railway station from airport. I had already booked my train tickets from coimbture to chalakudi. Train is most comfortable option for me, as one can sleep nicely for some hours in night. I had enough amount of sleep in train and reached chalakudi in early morning 5am. Got freshen up in waiting rooms of railway station. Athirapally is 30 km from chalakudi. Athirapally waterfalls One can reach Cochin and book the taxi for whole trip. Athirapally is just 80 km from Cochin, can take 2:30 to 3 hours to reach. If you guys are traveling in group, taxi is the best option. It’s time saving, comfortable and not so costly, as total fare will get devided by travellers. Just relax and enjoy the beauty of waterfalls. Leave athirapally by 11-12 pm and head towards the most beautiful hill station of India- Munnar.

If you are having taxi, then it’s easy to reach there. If you are traveling solo, use Kerala state transport buses. Direct buses are rare from chalakudi to munnar. Be ready to change 2-3 buses to reach munnar. I reached munnar in evening by bus, checked in hotel and enjoyed it’s pink mesmerizing sunset

Most beautiful places to visit at munnar are, Eravikulam national park, tea gardens & museums, photo point, rose gardens, Lockhart tea estates, top station during sunrise, mattupatty dam, etc etc. Try to visit Eravikulam national park early in the morning. As early as you can reach there, waiting time in the queue will be less. It will take 4-5 hours. Complete your lunch then and explore tea gardens n museums.

Leave munnar early morning and reach Kumily around 10-11 am. Check in hotel or homestay, complete your lunch and head towards Periyaar Tiger Sanctuary. It’s difficult to point out any tiger at sanctuary, but other wildlife we can easily spot out there. Most of the times, it’s luck by chance like thing.

Try to reach kanyakumari around 12-1 pm. I took train from varkala to kanyakumari n completed my breakfast at canteen of railway station.

After completing lunch at kanyakumari, take some rest. Plan to reach at Vivekananda smarak around 4 pm. It will take 1-1:30 hours to see the smarak. Local market is very good for the shopping of sarees and stone jwellary. There is temple of Devi Kanyakumari at local market. Complete the shopping quickly and head towards the sunset point. It’s one of the most beautiful sunsets of India.

Sunrise of kanyakumari is famous for it’s beauty. It’s not advisable to miss it. People come to kanyakumari specially to enjoy sunrise. After breakfast, leave for trivendrum. Again train is the best option. Have some nap in between if you have woke up early for sunrise.

Two main attractions are there to visit. Padmanabham temple and Kovalam beach. Check the timings of temple and visit it first. Then keep Kovalam beach for evening. For solo travellers, option of auto or citybus is there to reach Kovalam from trivendrum. One can visit lighthouse beach. There is chance to go to the top of lighthouse to see the 360 degree view of Kovalam beach which is amazing. Last time to buy a ticket is 5:30 pm.
