We traveled to God’s own country Kerala and explored all the beautiful places from Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey, Trivandrum and Poovar island. Kerala is commercial tourist destination, so one can choose accommodation based on any budget and offers varieties of food choices from vegetarian to non-vegetarian. The best part is the variation from hills, to jungle, backwaters, sea and lot more in one single state of India.

Munnar is a hill station in western Ghats mountain range. It is famous for its beautiful tea plantations as far as one can see. It is soothing to the eyes and perfect place for best photographs. Munnar is also famous for its medicinal herbs, elephants, rivers and lakes. We did elephant riding, bought lots of spices and did one of the best speed boat rides in Mattupatti dam.

Look at the stunning tea gardens of Munnar in Kerala!

Thekkady is 3-4 hours driving distance from Munnar. We had a tour of Munnar and got dropped in Thekkady in the same taxi. Periyar Lake is famous for bamboo raft rides and we were fortunate to see a herd of wild elephants crossing the lake in front of us. Later at night, we went for very adventurous Jungle Scout Night trekking at Periyal tiger trail at night.

Look how serene Periyar lake looks like; We will be doing bamboo rafting here shortly.

Alappuzha, formerly known as Alleppey is famous for the backwaters in Kerala, a network of serene canals and lagoons. We reached Alleppey by bus. One night we stayed in houseboat and another one is some basic home stay. There is a famous snake boat race held annually in Punnamada Lake. We plan to attend it next time. Alleppey is also well known for its paddy fields. As we cruised through the tranquil canals, we found boats to be general model of transport for local people too. Along the water bodies, various luxurious and beautiful properties are available for tourist booking. We also went to Punnapra beach to check out some fishing boats and local life.

I am all smiles while cruising through the backwaters of Kerala in Alleppey.

Trivandrum was last in our list along with Poovar island. Trivandrum is the capital of Kerala and we stayed in the Samudra resort of KTDC in Kovalam. It was just by the sea and we enjoyed some most scenic view and peaceful time. Trivandrum is quite populated. We rented a bike and roamed around in the city. We also visited some old fishing villages nearby and stopped by random places to enjoy a great view of the sea.

Lastly, we stayed one night in one of luxury resorts, Poovar Island Resort in Poovar island and next day took a flight back to Mumbai from Trivandrum.

Look how calm the sea looks from Samudra resort of KTDC in Kovalam.
