Day 2 : Munnar

Today after taking your breakfast, you can check out from hotel and proceed for Munnar. You can book a car from Kochi and also tell your driver to enroute Athirapally Falls and Vazhachal waterfalls. It will take little more time but these falls are must visit if you are in Kochi.

Athirapally falls is formed by the Chalakudy River, which originates in the Anamudi mountains (Western Ghats) and flows through the Vazhachal forest on its way to the Arabian Sea. Near Athirapally, the river becomes turbulent and surges around huge rocks.

It cascades down in three separate parts from nearly 80 feet, forming the breathtaking Athirapally falls. The beauty of the falls is best seen from the bottom. But, remember that to reach bottom of the falls you have to walk a long sloppy way and climbing back is even more difficult. On your way to Munnar you can also visit Cheeyappara falls and Vallara falls.

If you are coming from Kochi and plan to visit Athirapally and Vazhachal falls you have to cover almost a distance of 235 km. So, even if you start at 7 A.M. you will reach in Munnar at around 4.30 P.M. So, after reaching and checking in to the hotel, you can stroll around Munnar.

Day 9 : Trivandrum to Kanyakumari and return

Today, you will go the southernmost point of India. The distance of Kanyakumari from Trivandrum is approximately 100 KM. And as you are going to Kanyakumari today, you surely do not want to miss the exceptional sunset.

So it will be late evening to return back Trivandrum. There is a conducted bus tour arranged by KTDC (Throughout the week except Monday) which starts at 7.30 AM and ends at 10 PM. It will charge you Rs. 990 per person and enroute they will make you visit at Padmanabhapuram Palace.

But in my opinion, for this day, please book a full car (4 seater/6 seater/8 seater and so on as per your team size). You will get ample number of options in Trivandrum regarding the driver. During your booking please tell the driver to stop at Poovar Island and Padmanabhapuram Palace.

Poovar is known for back waters and Golden Sand Beach. But if you want to experience the back water, you have to bargain a lot. You will enjoy the ambience and nature with silence which will give peace of mind. Padmanabhapuram Palace is a well-preserved wooden palace which stands as a glorious testimony to the traditional Kerala Architecture. The extraordinary murals, exquisite floral carvings and the black glossy granite floor will surely astonish you.

After reaching Kanyakumari, it will be better that first you stand in the queue for Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Because, the length of the queue will increase as the time past.

So, without wasting your time, first go to Vivekananda Rock Memorial. From the vessel during your ride to reach Vivekananda Rock, the view of Thiruvalluvar statue and the temple is just awesome. After returning from Vivekananda Rock, you take your lunch and after that spent some times beside the beach. For me, it was the best part of my Kerala Tour after Munnar. I must visit Kanyakumari again.
