After 45 hours of gruelling train journey, we, four wanderlusts came to the capital city of God's Own Country. Our hotel was clearly visible by it's large glowing billboard from the platform. Hotel Highland could make a headline for it's brilliant Restaurant. Their overall service was also decent.
This was the day of beaches. We went to four of the best beaches in and around trivandrum with a glimpse of backwater in poovar. Varkala was hands down the best beach I've ever been to. Azhimala is a lesser known but certainly much better than Kovalam beach.
We spent our third day in the footnote of India, Kanyakumari. Its situated in Tamil Nadu but most of the south and central Kerala tour packages usually include this serene place. Everybody knows about the Vivekananda Rock and Thiruvallular Statue, but the virgin places are what make Kanyakumari so magical. Places like Vattikottai Fort and Cape Comorin Sunset Point are must for travellers.
This day for the most of it's part was comprised of transportation. We rode the waterbus from Kollam upto Alleppey. A 8-hour long boat ride along the Ashtamudi Lake, Kottayam lake and other backwater network in Kerala. We enjoyed keralan cuisine in a village restaurant during lunchtime.
If somebody thinks about planning a trip to Kerala, houseboat stay in the middle of backwaters of Vembanad Lake either in Alleppey or Kumarakom should be the nucleus of it. We enjoyed every bit of the houseboat package. In the evening we also strolled through the beautiful Alapphuzha beach.
Periyar tiger Reserve. We always pick a spot for safari in every of our tours. This time was no exception. We did boat safari in afternoon and green walk( jungle trekking) in the next morning spotting Wild Elephants,Bison, Ridley Tortoise, Sambar, Asian Flycatcher, Giant Malabar Squirrel, red mongoose and a lots of cormorant.
Munnar: land of three rivers. One of the best hill stations in South India. Top Station was the top-notch spot. Besides that the special attractions are tea museum, mattupetty Dam, Echo point, Blossom Park, Kundala Lake and some sunset points. Our hotel was situated 8 kms downhill Munnar at Pallivasal. The scenic beauty in Pallivasal is awe-striking. We enjoyed brilliant shows of Kathakali and Kalaripayattu in back to back days there.
Queen of Arabian Sea. Kochi is a brilliant city with a wide spectrum of tourist interests. Fort Kochi is the oldest part of the city which is influenced by Dutch and Portuguese Architecture. Santa Crus Basilica, Indo-portuguese museum, Fort Kochi Beach, Chinese Fishing Net are the things you should not miss while on Kochi. We had an Ernakulum special Beef fry in the city. Lulu mall, in the north east fringe of the city is the largest shopping mall of India. The ferry system connecting the different islands of Kochi is also Very beautiful.
Athirapally: One place you shouldn't miss while on Kochi. 85 km from the city centre. Athirapally and vazhachal waterfalls can be covered in a day trip basis. The beauty of the waterfalls can only be matched by its vastness. Nobody can actually describe it so it's better to watch it for yourselves.
