As I close my eyes and search the racks of travel memories, my heart stumbles upon the sound of oars gracefully going up and down the blissful backwaters; upon the slanting coconut trees etching the beautiful canvas made by the Sun setting over the waters; and upon the landscapes dazzling in lush green coat while gleeful rains trickle down every now and then.
Yes, I am diving in the memories of Kerala. Kerala in monsoons. Kerala arguably tops all Indian destinations so as to enjoy our country's prettiest monsoon scenes. So much so that a single visit to this state, fondly known as 'God's own Country', couldn't satisfy me and I again found myself feeling Kerala's downpour on my cheeks in the month of August!
It was during this trip that while tottering around I stumbled upon this lesser visited beauty known as Marari Beach.
Marari beach is relatively lesser explored gem, which is about 15 kilometres north of the famous Allepey (Allaphuzha) beach. While both the beaches have amazing white sands with sunlight glistening over the peaceful horizons, marking a stark difference between the two is the cleanliness and solace that Marari beach has to offer. You would find the same spectacularly clean white sands here as Allepey, however there will hardly be any touristy crowd chattering and constantly clicking pictures around you. So much so that once you find a small little corner in the sands, it almost feels as if it were a private beach of yours and there's noone to disturb your panacea.
How to reach and what to do:
As I said earlier, this beach is about 15 kilometres to the north of Allepey beach and it takes about 30 minutes to reach there from Allepey. If enjoying shikara rides on backwaters of Kumarakom os in your itinerary, this beach could be the cherry on top of your cake as it's very close to the former. Cabs are easily available from both Kumarakom and Allepey to reach there. All you have to do is put 'Marari Beach' location on you Google map and drive off.
As the beach is not much frequented by tourists, you would not find any water activities or shimmery beach side resorts in the vicinity. Rent an umbrella and a lounge chair and let your thoughts lose as you stare at the tranquil horizons and greet the brisk pats of sea breeze on your face. You might want to take your favourite book and may be let the breeze turn the pages for you. Lose yourself, every bit of it; you might find a missing piece of yourself when you return from this beautiful, beautiful beach!
