Words fail when it comes to explain the God's own country - Kerala. Amidst many locations present in the beautiful state of Kerala, Allepey (otherwise called as Allapuzha) stands out tall with its mystic beauty of backwaters. Allepey is called the Venice of the East.

How to reach Allepey
Nearest Airport: Cochin International Airport (83 kms to Allepey)
Nearest Train Terminal: Allepey railway station. You can also reach Allepey by train from other cities inside the kerala state like Kochi (Cochin), Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode
Nearest Bus Terminal: Alappuzha KSRTC Bus Stand. There are bus services operating from cities inside the Kerala state like Cochin (1:30 hours), Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode
By own transport: Allepey district is well-connected by NH 66
Note: Tourist taxis are the most convenient way to travel around attractions, especially while travelling in a group. Most airports and railway stations have tourist taxi services that would take you anywhere you would want to go.
Trip Summary:
Day 1: Cochin airport to Kumarakom (78 kms)
Stayed at Tharavadu heritage home in Kumarakom
Day 2: Reached Allepey by road (30 km from Kumarakom)
Plan: Booked Houseboat for a day (12 pm to next day 9.30 a.m)
Agency: Cosy tours, Cost: 14,500 Rs, Capacity: 3bhk houseboat
Houseboat we got in:
Houseboat operating hours : 12.30 to 6.30 pm with one or two short intervals
Boat at rest from 6.30 pm to 8 a.m
Boat will drop you off at 9.30 a.m
I must say this was an experience for lifetime as this has been a long time dream for me to witness the backwaters of Kerala. Stunning it was throughout, the lush green leaves and the majestic coconut trees adding to the scenery. Don't have second thoughts if this destination was in your travel bucket. Experience it and you will love it for sure.
Add-ons in houseboat: You will be served with delicious lunch-dinner-breakfast for free with all inclusive in the charges paid for houseboat. You will also be travelling with a personalized cook and a captain for the boat (3 pax)

Day 3: Allepey to Vagamon by road (100 kms)
Vagamon also called the Scotland of Asia, is situated in the border of Kottayam,Idukki district, Kerala.
Must see locations are Vagamon Meadows, Pine Forest, Kurishumala, Thangal para

Some additional Info:
Alleppey and Kumarakom are two ends of backwaters - Alleppey on the west, facing the Arabian Sea and Kumarakom on east, facing the Western Ghats mountains.
You have two options to chose for backwaters starting from
1. Allepey
2. Kumarakom
However, the feel and flavor of Alleppey and Kumarakom is different. There are more houseboats in Alleppey whereas luxury resorts are concentrated around Kumarakom which includes Kumarakom Lake Resort, Coconut lagoon, Zuri Resorts etc.
