The South Indian state of Kerala is a beautiful and enticing tourist destination. Its sandy beaches, serene backwaters, abundant wildlife and forests, and its lush green landscape have captured the eye of tourists and artists alike. This means that there are various beautiful tourist places in Kerala. In fact, if anything, the influx of filmmakers from Bollywood has only increased the contents of a tourist’s checklist.

Let us look at some of the famous locations that have been used in Bollywood films [Persons featured in some photographs are myself & my wife as we were 6 years back , since the Bollywood stars could not spare time for the click :) ]

Alappuzha aka Alleppey – Baaghi (2016)

If you have heard of the Kerala Backwaters, then what is being talked about is Alappuzha. Several scenes from a romantic song in Baaghi were shot on a boat floating in the backwaters. Apart from the picturesque backwaters, Alappuzha also boasts of serene beaches on the Laccadive Sea. It also has an island, Pathiramanal, which is home to several species of migratory birds.

Fort Kochi – Madras Café (2013)

Several scenes of Madras Café were shot in Fort Kochi. This little region in Cochin has many attractions, including a beach, museums, temples, churches, and a synagogue, among others.

Munnar – Chennai Express (2013)

Ironically for its name, the movie Chennai Express had several scenes shot in Kerala. Many of the scenes in the hit song ’Kashmir Main… Tu Kanyakumari’ from the film were shot near Munnar. Another song ’Titli’ from the same film was shot at the Meesapulimala hill station, near Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the world’s highest tea estate. You can try the tea out here, which is known for its freshness and different taste due to the higher altitude.

Thekkady, Idukki – Dil Se (1998)

This is one of the best places in Kerala for tourists who like Bollywood romance. The very sensual and ravishing song ’JiyaJale’ from the movie ’Dil Se’ was shot here. Tourists can also engage in bamboo rafting and boating, apart from trekking and visiting the Periyar Elephant Park.

AthirapallyWaterfalls – Guru (2007)

One of the most famous waterfalls in Kerala was featured heavily in the song Barso re Megha’ featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from the movie ’Guru.’ The waterfalls are also notable for being the used in several other films. Since its fame has made it crucial to Kerala Tourism, it is very well connected by air, rail, and road.
