A tour around the mighty Everest on a helicopter is a dream for all. But we barely realize that every dream comes with a cost! Sad, but true - a group of five Mexican tourists who had come to Nepal to witness the majestic beauty of Mount Everest met a tragic end on Tuesday, when their helicopter crashed in a remote area of the Himalayan nation. The pilot, a Nepali national, also lost his life in the accident.

This bunch of enthusiasts had boarded a Manang Air helicopter from Lukla, the gateway to Everest, and were on their way back to Kathmandu after enjoying a scenic flight over the world’s highest peak.

However, due to bad weather conditions, the helicopter had to change its course and lost contact with the authorities at 10:13 am local time.

A grim discovery

After hours of frantic search and rescue efforts, the helicopter was finally located at Likhupike, a village in Solukhumbu district, near Lamjura pass. The locals and the police who reached the crash site confirmed that there were no survivors. The bodies of the victims were recovered and taken to Kathmandu for identification and autopsy.

A possible cause

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest that poor visibility due to rain and fog may have played a role. Nepal is currently in the monsoon season, which brings heavy rainfall and unpredictable weather patterns. This makes flying in the mountains especially risky and challenging.

The crash has cast a shadow over Nepal’s tourism industry, which relies heavily on foreign visitors who come to explore its natural and cultural wonders. The country has witnessed several aviation accidents in recent years, raising concerns over Nepal's aviation safety standards and regulations. The government has vowed to improve the situation and prevent such tragedies from happening again.
