Syambhunath or Syambhunath Stupa is an ancient temple on the hill. It is a glorious architectural structure in Nepal and is really important for the tourism of Kathmandu. This perfectly built monument rises through a whitewashed dome to a spire, from where four iconic faces of the Buddha stare out across the valley in the cardinal directions.
It is also known as the Monkey Temple and your one visit will let you know why.
You can also see the entire city of Kathmandu from top of the temple. To reach the temple you have to go through a steep trek of stairs which is easy to do and is quite amazing.
How to reach Syambhunath?
Syambhunath is well connected with other parts of Kathmandu and you can take a taxi from any point in Kathmandu to reach this heritage sight.
I had a month stay in Kathmandu due to work and was never able to get out time to visit this place. Then during one lazy Sunday afternoon me and my senior decided to take a cab to Syambhunath. Within few minutes we were at the base of Syambhunath Temple, the stairs above us looked a bit steep but we decided to give our breathing abilities a go.
During this entire step trekking, we were accompanied by monkeys of all sizes, i was a bit afraid sometimes but overall they were friendly.
The stupa is located atop of the hill having two entry way; a long tiring staircase & the car road entrance. We decided to step up all 365 steep stairs to reach at the top of stupa, however it was exhausting experience.
The steep stairs gave way to the temple after 20 minutes of climbing and the view we got was fascinating something that was so spellbinding. The entire city of Kathmandu was visible from this temple.
It was wonderful to spend about an hour at the top of the hill. The mesmerizing beauty was spellbinding. The beauty of the temple and the structure and architecture were too good to be true.
This is a highly recommended place for everyone in Kathmandu. The images attached will give you an idea regarding the beauty of this place.
