Kasauli, or Kussowlie as it was called is a quaint little cantonment town. A rich historical past, colonial bungalows and motels, Kasauli is a small hill station seated in the Dhauladhar ranges. The cantonment was established in 1842, during the British Raj. It is 77 kms from Chandigarh enroute to Shimla.

How to reach Kasauli?
Kasauli can be reached by Car or taxi from Chandigarh or Shimla.
The Kalka Shimla toy train ( A world heritage declared by UNESCO)which stops at dharampur, 9 kms away from Kasauli, so if you are on a leisure trip and want to savour the beauty of the mountains you must take a journey on this train.
There is a regular bus service from various cities of himachal as well as from Chandigarh and Ambala.

What to shop in Kasauli?
The Tibetan market of Kasauli is loaded with fashionable clothes, woolens and accessories. The Heritage market though is the real deal. A lot of shops there sell exclusive home linen and furnishings. You will get an amazing variety of quilted bedcovers, table linen, mats and rugs. The HPMC store has a variety of jams, jellies, pickles, cider and wines which are produced locally by the government. You will also find a huge variety of Kullu shawls and stoles as well as handknitted baby sets.
There are a few more cantonment towns around Kasauli like Sabathu and Dagshai if you want to trek and enjoy the vintage and colonial charm.
