10) Visit the ruins:
Hampi ruins are ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. It continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the old city. The ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Visit my Photo Diary: Monuments at Hampi.
9) Stay by the rice fields and river:
We stayed at the Mowgli Guesthouse which was Rs 3600 for 3 nights, which was an amazing price during New Years 2015 for a cottage for two along the rice paddies and you are guaranteed a beautiful view of the sunset from a swinging porch bed outside.
8) Film screenings:
If you spot a movie you like or one you've never seen before playing at a cafe near you, you should go! Great way to relax, take a break and meet new people.
7) Graffiti spotting:
A walk down the main market street and beyond will you chance to glance upon graffiti by international artist from all over the world. While you may not understand or get most signature signs, they are still fun to admire.
6) Rent a Cycle or Mopet:
Rent a bike was on the sisters list! Bicycling on mine! Take a tour up the empty winding paths to the reservior dam. Take time to get off and photograph the locals, village life, and the fields. It's the best way to get more ground covered and more sights seen. Cost to rent a bicycle is Rs 150/- and mopet is Rs 300/-.
5) Go bouldering/ Rock climbing:
Hampi is the undisputed bouldering capital of India. The entire landscape is made of granite crags and boulders, some bearing the marks of ancient stonemasons. However, bolting is limited, so you'll need to rent a decent bouldering mat, plenty of gear and perhaps even lessons from climbers in the market.
4) Look for Special (Bhaang) Lassi:
The GIANT boulders scattered around Hampi reminds me of a scene from the Flintstones a cartoon we've all grown up watching. You'd even expect dinosaurs to start jumping around or peeping out. Maybe they did but i can't say for sure that the "Special" Lassi had nothing to do with it.
3) Cliff jump into the reservoir dam:
You'll see a group of people laying out near the main cliff, near the dam and if it's empty that day, ask a guide where people jump. The water isn't clear, but people jump from this same place for years! It was HIGH and FUN! If it scares you, just encourage others to do it. Like we did.
2) Cafe hopping
Imagine a complete hippie vibe with Prem Joshua tracks playing on speakers. Creative blends of culinary experts and local village food served off banana leaves can be found all around. Read more on Cafe hopping in Hampi. Eat at Mango Tree, New Shanti and The Hoova Craft Shop & Cafe. The above picture depicts Mix fruit Parotha, Mint Tea, Banana Chocolate Pie, BBQ Pizzaa, Nutella on toast, Muesli Cookie , Bhang Lasi and Bruschettas. Total damage to my pocket Rs 500.
And lastly
1) Take a coracle ride:
This video says it all! You haven't done Hampi if you haven't done the coracle ride!
Ps: This coracle ride was done after the "Special" Lassi kicked in!
