Set in a 180-acre spread of forest, coffee and spice plantation, the opulent Tamara resort in Coorg is located at an elevation that rises between 3500 feet to 3900 feet.
The Tamara offers 4 categories of accommodation. Both the 44 Luxury Cottages and the 2 Superior Luxury Cottages, each with an area of 608 sq feet, are located on a cliff with a view. The former is done in pastel tones, while the décor for the latter are inspired by nature. The 8 Suites, each with an area of 821 sq feet have a separate bedroom and living areas, with wall to wall wood panelling, and décor to create nature’s soft hues of colour. The 2 Eden Lotus Cottages, each with an area of 1670 sq feet, has two bedrooms each with an attached bath, an expansive living room, and have a fine décor, with subtle colours, elegant embellishments to provide lavish interiors.
All rooms offer king size beds with ergonomic mattress, fine linen, a complimentary non-alcoholic mini bar, CCTV, free WiFi, Chess board on coffee table, recliner sofa at private sundeck, telephone, electronic safe, air conditioner, coffee and tea maker, rain shower, organic shower supplies, hair dryer and an electric golf car on call. Luxury Cottages and Suites have 42 inch LCD televisions, while the Superior Luxury Cottages and Eden Lotus accommodations are equipped with 50″ 3D LCD television, a 3D movie library, Apple TV, 3D movie library and an Ipad. Eden Lotus accommodations have a Jacuzzi on the sundeck.
Spread across 1000 sq feet, the Yoga Temple embellished with traditional Mangalorian clay tiles, celebrates the amalgamation of sacred art and architecture. It is surrounded by luxuriant foliage beside a neighbouring organic coffee plantation.
The Window is a business retreat set in natural open spaces for hosting in-house meetings, workshops and corporate events. Large glass panelling on each side provides an unobstructed view of nature around it. It can accommodate 80 persons and is equipped with Wi-Fi, LCD projector, and other conferencing facilities.
The Elevation Spa provides treatment with materials grown locally. The spa imbibes the concept of “antra mauna”, that is inner silence. It offers a range of treatments and therapies for relaxation, rejuvenation and detoxification.

Room rates start at Rs.20000 per night, taxes extra. The price includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Food
The multi-cuisine Falls restaurant, with a see-through glass floor in the centre, spans a natural stream. It is surrounded by lush greenery and also offers al fresco dining, including candlelit dinners by a private waterfall. Meals are prepared using local ingredients, and the menu varies with the seasons of the year and includes the delicious Coorgi cuisine. Specialties include pandi (pork) curry, bimbali (bamboo shoot) curry, koovali puttu made from fresh jackfruit, and the popular Coorgi koli (chicken) curry.
The Deck is a posh comfortable lounge bar offering premium spirits. It offers a relaxed outdoor experience as well as quiet indoor moments.
The Verandah coffee lounge has a bookshop and a gift shop displaying items produced in the resort. You can brew your own coffee and enjoy it in the old world charm of a heritage building done in rustic décor.
Best time to go
Coorg can be visited at any time of the year, with temperatures between 20 to 32 degrees Celsius in the hilly areas. June to September is the rainy season, and the landscape is lush and verdant.

Outside the resort, one can visit Raja’s Seat to see the sunset. Take a trip to the Tibetan settlement and monastery at Bylakuppe, bathe the elephants at the Dubare Elephant Camp, go off-roading by jeep and visit the source of the sacred Kaveri River.
