One can sometime wonder how can a place be so contrasting from its neighbor. The similarities between Sanapur and Hampi ends in both sharing the same town. On one side Hampi is decorated with rocky and deserted landscape. In Sanapur your eyes are treated with never ending green paddy fields, Tungabhadra canal, lake and a small but gorgeous waterfall and free from all the tourists found in Hampi.
Yes, a trip only to Sanapur is not worthy of one's time. Exploring Sanapur can be clubbed with trip to Hampi. This is best done by staying in Sanapur as its just 20 min drive to Tungabhadra river from where you can take the ferry to Hampi.

In this blog I will give you 4 reason why Sanapur should be a part of your itinerary during your trip to Hampi.
1. Riding through green paddy fields overlooking sunset/sunrise.
Just as you take the narrow village road from Hospete to Sanapur you are greeted with the never ending paddy fields decorated with rocky formations in the background. Just pick any spot to park you bike by the side of the road, grab a drink and you are all set for a gorgeous sunrise/sunset views.
2. Rocky reflections at Tundabhadra canal.
If you are done with greenery head to the small dam near hotel Gowri and be mesmerized with the reflections of the hills over the tranquility of clam water as you hear the faint roar of water gushing from the canal at a distance.
3. Theppa ride at Sanapur lake
Next up is the boat ride (theppa) in the lake which is adjacent to the canal. A small fees of around 100 rupees per head will take you for a 15-20 min ride over the lake. Theppa is a small circular boat made of bamboos and tree bark.
4. Relaxing by the waterfall
The final jewel in the crown is the small waterfall just 5 min away. Any local will guide you to the place. More like a stream and less like a waterfall this is the perfect place to relax your body at the end of day as you sit in the water current with your feet inside the damp sand.
So that was about Sanapaur - offbeat little place. These views are best enjoyed early morning or late evenings once your excursions are done in Hampi. There are other places around Sanapur namely Anegundi, monkey temple and a few more. Its best to take a good number of days off and cover all the places in and around Hampi.
