We can always search for a million substitutes for the age old Nandi Hills but nothing can actually satiate the travel bug who wants to travel but also doesn't want a hectic day or a sleepless night. There's not much to describe about the beauty of this place. The pictures tell all the tales about the splendid views this place has to offer.
At a distance of about 62 km from Bengaluru, this place contradicts the natural perception of people about the electronic city. Despite being so close to the city this place offers exceptional views of flora in the neighboring Chikaballapur area.
On reaching the check post from where the 7 km ghat section starts you'll see the scenery changing quite a bit. Usually the check post people open the gate around 6 AM so it's pretty difficult to see the sunrise from Nandi Hills. Instead most of the times you visit this place, you'll end up watching the sunrise on your way to Nandi in the 7 km ghat section. This however has it's own perks and you can still enjoy it.
Once there, you can park your vehicles in the well organized parking lot and head towards the ticket counter for entry to the area. Strangely I have been to this place twice but never really noticed that this place was initially built as a fort for the forces of Tipu Sultan but was later claimed by the British Forces owing to it's weather and topographical significance.
Once inside the area you can explore the gardens and the famous view point. This view point also served as the place where Tipu Sultan used to sentence the prisoners of war to death.
The views from here are enchanting to say the least. Going back, you can find 3 breakfast places which open pretty early in the morning. So getting food is not going to be a problem at Nandi.
The Unexplored (and the best):
One unexplored area in Nandi Hills is behind a private property from where you can have amazing views of the plains below. Although it also depends a lot on the weather condition for watching the amazing views but more or less after 8 AM the clouds start disappearing as sunlight makes it way.
The skies in Nandi also tell a tale which could almost match with the skies of beach sunsets. The colors of even the sunrise are so vivid that it makes difficult to even guess from pictures if it's a sunrise or a sunset.
How to reach:
You have to travel on NH 44 for a fair amount of distance till you reach Devanahalli from where you have to take a left and follow the road which will lead to Nandi Hills.
What to carry:
Nandi hills is pretty much commercialized by now and you don't have to carry a single thing for here. A bottle of water and a camera to capture the amazing views should be more than enough.
