Just about 100 km (2.5 hours) from Bangalore, there is prestigious temple of Lord Shiva in village Kammasandra in Kolar district of Karnataka.
This temple is famous because of the largest and tallest shiva linga present in Asia. People believe there are about one crore lingas of different sizes but the actual number could be a little lesser (around 90 lakhs and daily some lingas are being added by the devotees, shortly it could cross 1 Crore mark).
Within the premises of the temple, there are about eleven other temples for different deities. The first of them includes the temple of Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, and Lord Maheshwara temples. This is followed by a temple of Lord Kotilingeshwara. Every day a good number of devotees visit this temple and offers prayers here.
Maha Shivaratri is a special occasion and a large number of devotees make it a point to be there on this auspicious day.
