If you are spending a romantic weekend with your significant other in Sri Lanka, the place to head to is Kandy; the cosy city in the hills is just small enough and wholly big enough for you and your loved one to have the place all to yourself.
1. Bahirawakanda
Visit the mountain that juts out of the centre of the plateau on which the city rests. There is a snowy white giant statue of Buddha looking over the city and makes for a great vantage point. Since Kandy is small you will be able to see over the entire city.
2. The Royal Palace
The royal palace in Kandy makes for a great walk and you can get lost in time together exploring the well-preserved palace quarters. You can also visit the Temple of the Tooth and experience the peace of believers flocking together.
3. The Kandy Lake
The area around the Kandy lake is surrounded by many a boutique hotel in Kandy. But more than the view of the man-made water body that makes the unofficial centre of the old city, it makes for a romantic walk amidst the shade of ancient trees.
4. The Kandy City Centre
If you want to get some air conditioning and window shop, the city centre is the perfect place to hang out.
5. Udawattekele Forest Reserve
It requires a small hike, but the views are definitely worth it. The forest reserve is not just for nature lovers. There are well-paved pathways to walk along enjoying being personal with nature.
