I had been on several treks in the Himalayas before, but I had never heard of the Pangarchulla Peak trek. It was only when my friends told me about it that I decided to take the plunge. I didn't prepare much for the trek and didn't read much about it. My main aim was to enjoy the beauty of nature and make new friends along the way.
Pangarchulla trek known for know for it’s summit climb. While the submit climb, it leaves you with strong adrenaline rush, what adds to this experience is the mountain views you get from the top. All along the trek, you are accompanied by grand views of a big part of the Greater Himalayan Range. And at the summit, you are surrounded by them and they all stand so close to you.
Itinerary for the trek as follows:
Day 1: Travel from Dehradun to Joshimath
As we started our journey from Dehradun to Joshimath, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. The drive was breathtaking, and I couldn't wait to start the trek. It will take 6/7 hours’ drive from Dehradun to Joshimath (shared taxi will cost your 700INR/ seat) and full taxi will cost you around 5K INR.
Joshimath is famed as the gateway for mountain climbing expeditions, trekking and several other thrilling activities. I have had fall in love with white Kidney beans pulse that much I take back 2 Kg of white kidney beans to home. I stayed in Hotel Grand Kailash in Joshimath very comfortable and cosey with very basic amenities.
Day 2: Travel from Joshimath to Tapoban and Trek to Karchi Akharghetta
It take me 40-45 min drive from Joshimath to Tapoban and we started our trek from Tapoban to Akharghetta, and I was amazed by the beauty of the lush green forests and small villages like Karchi. Most of the trekkers make 1st day base camp to Karchi. However, since our team is highly motivated and experienced, we skip the base camp 1st. As we trekked from Karchi to Akharghetta, I was struck by the peacefulness of the surrounding nature. The meadows were breathtakingly beautiful, on the way you will cross beautiful glittering golden oak forests.
Day 3: Trek from Akharghetta to Khullara
The trek from Akharghetta to Khullar was challenging, but the stunning views of the surrounding mountains made it all worth it. The Khullar Pass was particularly beautiful, and I felt lucky to have the opportunity to experience such natural beauty. As we say, the beauty of travelling is not the destination but the journey itself.
So may be for that reason I love Khullara most; it has magnificent meadows and a clear view of Mt. Dronagiri, Hathi-Ghora Parbat, Chaukhamba, and Kamet.
Day 4: Acclimatization in Khullara
The day in Khullara was relaxing, and I took the time to rest and rejuvenate. I also enjoyed some quiet moments amidst the stunning natural beauty. Rhododendrons, providing colors to the already beautiful forest. Being in Khullara will transport you to a different world altogether.
I have done the night photography in Khullara since weather was clear and we were getting clear view of stars which is not possible in metro cities.
Day 5: Move from Khullara to Pangarchulla Peak and Back to Khullara.
The climb to Pangarchulla Peak was challenging, but the view from the summit was worth all the effort. We wake up by 3:00 AM and get our pack lunch. Before the last push to Pangarchulla peak there is bolder sections which is little tricky when it is covered by snow. Due to it our speed of the group was very slow so that everyone will reach the summit safely. I felt a sense of achievement as I looked out at the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 6: Trek from Khullara to Joshimath
As we made our way back to Joshimath, I felt a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. The trek had been an amazing experience, and I had made some new friends along the way.
In conclusion, the Pangarchulla Peak trek was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget. I went into the trek with no expectations, but I came out of it with a newfound appreciation for nature and a sense of accomplishment. The beauty of the Himalayas is truly unparalleled, and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to experience it firsthand.
