A city in Uttar Pradesh, which is rich in culture and heritage. The greatest claim to fame in the city was under the rule of the legendary Queen Rani Laxmi Bai. During the 1857 rebellion Rani Laxmi Bai, Ghulam Gaus Khan, Jhalkari Bai, and others led forces against British rule. She died bravely at the age of 22 while fighting to free India. Later, the independence movement from here is led by Chandra Shekhar Azad, Pandit Parmanand, and others.
This fortress was built using architectural elements of both the Bundela and Maratha styles.
It has walls of granite, about 20 feet thick. There is a wall on the south end of the fortress connecting it with the town. This fort is constructed over a hill, on 15 acres of land. Fort has serene elegance combined with its peaceful atmosphere.

Rani Mahal in Jhansi is the former residence and royal palace of Rani Lakshmi Bai. Later converted into a museum of 9th-century artifacts and life of Rani Lakshmibai.

Jhansi Mahotsav is held every year in January and February month, where many local artists perform plays and music showing tourists their culture and history.
Jhansi lies in the Budelkhand region, in the extreme south of the Uttar Pradesh.
Nearest Airport is Gwalior which is nearly 115 km far. Jhansi is well connected by frequent trains and buses from other major cities of the country.
