Grasslands of Lidderwat

There is more to Kashmir than just Srinagar, Gulmarg and Sonamarg. Kashmir is referred to as the valley of lakes. There are more than 15 enchanting lakes deep in the valleys and mountains of Kashmir which are accessible only by trekking. Tarsar and Marsar are two high altitude alpine lakes in Kashmir.

Lidderwat (2784 mtrs)

Trek starts from the base camp of Aru (2427 mtss) and takes you to the velvet green valley of Lidderwat. This region is referred to as the valley of sheperds who are also some of the most friendly people you will have a chance to interact with.

Shekhwas (3365 mtrs)

We leave behind the narrow valley of Lidderwat and enter Shekhwas where multiple valleys converge with the towering mountains of Kashmir giving rise to a sight of unparalled beauty which is beyond human comprehension. The sight is overwhelming to say the least as it takes some time to get registered as to how ravishingly alluring nature is.

Sundersar (3946 mtrs)

The trek to Sundersar lake takes us over the Tarsar pass which provides us with mesmerizing views on both sides. You get the spectacular view of the trail leading to the Sundersar lake where we will camping for the night. It involves a steep ascent to the pass where all there is to do is just sit and take in the unending view of the mountains, followed by a steep descent into the valley.

Marsar via Marsar Ridge (4024 mtrs)

The weather at Sundersar and Marsar is a bit unpredictable and usually leads to rain followed by a hail storm which eventually lead to a windy, rainy night which added to a thrilling experience. Access to Marsar lakes is via the Marsar ridge which has the Sundersar lake on one side and the Marsar lake on the other. This is also the highest point of the trek. The sight of Marsar is most of the time clouded so we get only a few seconds of glimpse and those few seconds are absolute heaven but limited to absorb the majestic beauty of the lake.
