If it has to be a vacation in India that’s to be lived in memories for a lifetime, it has to be LADAKH! The colorful monasteries, steep curves, snow-topped peaks, double humped camels, burning sun, freezing winds and a destination that comes straight out of the world of fantasies. This article is a ready reference for you on trip. The document is enclosed with pictures of beautiful moments as well.
Here I have made 9 nights/10 days itinerary for Srinagar- Leh trip.
Day 1: Srinagar – Kargil
Distance: 204 Kms.
After reaching Srinagar around 11:00 am we left for Kargil. Visited enroute places like Sonmarg (Known As Meadow of Gold), Drass Village (2nd Coldest In-habitated place in the World) and magnificent view of Kargil war Famous Peaks (Tiger, Tololing). Try to leave Srinagar by 12:00 pm to reach Kargil on-time.
There are lot of Motels in Sonmarg where you can enjoy the local authentic dishes.
Few important things :
• Buy useful medicines for headache, vomiting, nausea etc. whichever required.
• Buy Diamox required for high altitude places which should be taken under prescription.
• Oxygen cylinders for safety in case required further.
• Snacks for munching.
• Recharge your camera batteries and cellphones as you will be clicking lot of pictures in this trip.
• Withdraw Money from ATM if required.
Finally, We arrived Kargil around 8'o clk in the evening. There we stayed at Hotel Royal Gasho, Kargil.
Day 2: Kargil - Leh.
Distance: 180 Kms.
After having our breakfast we left for Leh . Visited enroute places like Mulbek, Lamayuru, the oldest Monastery of Ladakh ,Alchi Monastery, Magnetic Hill , Sangam and Moon Landscape. Arrived Leh around 6'o clk in the evening.
Try to leave Kargil by 7'oclk morning to reach Leh on -time.
There is a small village Khalsi where you can stop for Lunch.
Precaution:
Try not to exhaust yourself. Keep drinking water as oxygen level will be low as you will proceed further towards Leh.
We stayed at hotel The Druk Ladakh in Leh.
Day 3: Sight seeing around Leh
Distance: Within 50 Kms.
After having our breakfast visited Hall of Fame, Leh Palace, Spituk Kali Mandir and Local Market where you can shop for souvenirs, woolens etc.
There are several café and restaurant where you can try for local authentic dishes.
Precaution:
Avoid having non-veg, drinks and smoke.
Day 4: Leh – Nubra Valley
Distance: 150 Kms.
After having our breakfast left for Nubra valley .Enroute visited Khardung la ,the highest motorable road, Diskit Monastery, which has 106 Feet tall Buddha statue and Camel Safari over Hunder Sand Dunes . We stopped for lunch at Khalsar. We stayed in Himalayan Eco Resort, Nubra Valley (Highly Recommended for pleasant stay and awesome view).
Day 5: Nubra Valley – Leh
Distance: 150 Kms ~
Left for Leh after having breakfast and visited hot water springs @ Panamik, samsthaling on our way. Again we stopped for lunch at Khalsar. Reached Leh in the evening.
Day 6: Leh –Pangong Tso Lake
Distance: 225 Kms.
That was the day when we were most excited to reach Pangong asap ,the 3 idiots movie location.
After breakfast left for Pangong Tso Lake , visited enroute places like Shey Palace, Thiksey Monestary, Sindhu Ghaat and Chang La Pass. After having lunch at Tangtse reached Pangong in the evening and enjoyed the evening view of lake. Stayed at Whispering Waves Camp, Pangong Lake.
Day 7: Pangong Tso Lake –Leh
Distance: 225 Kms ~
Left for Leh by visiting Pangong Lake (3 idiot point), Hemis Monastery and Stok Palace.
Day 8: Leh- Srinagar
Distance: ~400 Kms ~
After breakfast left for Srinagar ,So this was the most tiring day because of distance and ofcourse we were sad as trip was about to end. Had lunch at Sonmarg again and reached Srinagar in the eve. Stayed there in RK Sarovar Portico, Srinagar.
Day 9: Srinagar Local sight seeing
Distance: Within 30 kms.
After breakfast left for local sight-seeing like Dal Lake, Nishaad Garden, Local Market.
Day 10: Srinagar -Mumbai
We had our flight in the morning,left for Mumbai with beautiful memories of Ladakh.
