The Golden City of Jaisalmer is known for its vast desert and the only living fort in India. Yes a living fort where most part of the population of the city still resides within the fort. It was such an amazing experience to visit the golden fort of Jaislamer. The architecture of the fort is definitely an architectural excellence of historic legacy.
As one reaches closer to the fort, there is cluttered parking and mess all around. As I reached the fort gate, I stood there for a few minutes to admire the beauty of this wondrous architecture. The entrance gate was huge.
As I walked further towards the entrance gate of the fort I saw a market along both sides of the entrance. There were shops of leather bags, bed sheets, jewelry, artifacts, clothes and many other stuffs. You'd find an old man here, playing some Rajasthani string instrument. I listened to him and as he ended up playing the music, he asked me to take a CD of his musical performances, for which he was asking a Rs. 200/-. I had other plans and so I didn't take his offer seriously.
Now as i looked around, I saw this beautiful lady sitting there in one corner of that cluttered market place. She was selling some jewelry items of Rajathan. She had this vibrant smile of her face. I captured her but there was this another cat eyed lady I was searching for. I saw her photographs on many instagram and travel portals of Jailsalmer but i didn't get to see her anywhere.
Now as I moved further into the fort, I was amazed to see the life inside of it. It felt like I entered some colony or some market. There were shops in the fort, people all around and some marvelous architecture, something for which I was here. I love to see the ancient monuments, palaces, forts, statues and the traces about their history. This place was a treat to eyes, it was a completely different experience than any of the other forts that I visited in Rajasthan.
While walking along the narrow streets of the golden fort of Jaisalmer I reached a corner where I took the stairs to its roof top. I loved to see some cafes up there. The view of the city was so mesmerizing from the top.
On the roof top and down the streets I got to see a lot of travelers and tourists all around. They were relishing the view and were also shopping around.
I then took a leap into the royal corridors of the fort and captured its beauty. While walking through the corridors, I felt the vibes of the royal history of Jaisalmer and its rulers. It would have been a really majestic yet struggle filled history.
After covering almost all parts of the fort I got down the fort and wandered around its streets again. There were some drama artists and artifact shops in the fort premises.
As I further roamed around the market in the fort premises, I got to see a Apple Pie cafe. It got me and I rushed into the place. It is run by a lady who is very humble. My mother makes delicious apple pies and that was the reason I wished to try a different taste. The cafe serves other eatables too but apple pie is the soothing delicacy. She served me hot preparation, which was a bit over smoked but had a very different taste. It was indeed delicious. I thanked the lady and walked further towards the fort gate.
In the way I saw a traveler who was trying to learn a Rajasthani musical instrument from some local musician of Jaisalmer. This moment described it perfectly that music could never have any boundaries, differences or borders.
Now as I finally reached the fort gate, I luckily got to find this gorgeous lady with the most beautiful cat eyes. Her smile and the color of her eyes were so captivating. I realized why people from all over the world are so eager to see her in reality. Yes she is indeed a living masterpiece of beauty.
It was such an amazing and wonderful experience to be witnessing the magnificent legacy and substance of the proud history of Jaisalemer. I finally rushed to the taxi stand to catch the cab back to my city.
While leaving from the golden city of Jaisalmer I saw the wind mills along the highways and it felt like the city was waving a good bye and was wishing me a happy and safe journey, hoping that I'll visit here again some day.
