Khuri is a small village located 50km from Jaisalmer City and is famous for sand dunes.
Why did we choose Khuri?
Jaisalmer is famous for sand dunes and there are countless number of agents asking for desert safari and camping. But they all take us to the same place called "Sam". There is no doubt that Sam has big sand dune, but it's over crowded, highly commercialised and costly. As we(me and a friend whom I met in the hostel) were looking for a peaceful place and spend night in wilderness, planned to visit Khuri village instead of Sam concrete camps.
Where did we stay?
Reached Khuri in the afternoon at around 2pm and stayed in Arjun Guest House. They are homely and helpful people. It's not a hotel with cozy rooms and various amenities, but it's very authentic and you're going to experience real Rajasthan. The entire family stays in the same house. They provide breakfast, lunch and dinners. They also organise desert safari at a very reasonable price. There are few other guest houses/camps too, can explore more.
How was the experience?
He took us bit far from the village on camel. There were hardly 1-2 other groups found on the way.
Journey to the sand dunes..
We planned to go for a camel safari and a night stay in desert.
As sun started going down, we started setting up our tent
He cooked delicious food for us, while we were enjoying the bone fire. We had whole night to count the stars!
Sun has started raising again. Time to return to our guest house.
Over all it was an amazing night, great food and slept under the stars! We could have stayed there for one more day but we had some other plans ahead.
If there's anyone who is looking for something like this, then you know the place now :)
