Rajasthan, formerly known as Rajputana or the Land of the Kings, is the perfect example of India's grandeur and magnificence dating back to several centuries. Majestic palaces, white and golden-sand deserts, traditional crafts and authentic cuisine make Rajasthan an ideal choice for all kinds of travelers. I stayed here for a week and visited the cities of Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. So if you are planning to visit the state of Rajasthan. These are the places you can visit and things you can do if you are short on time and want to cover most of the touristy places in Rajasthan.

There are a few major places to see in Jaipur and a day-long trip by a rickshaw costs you Rs 750 and will take you through the major touristy places in Jaipur like Amer Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Museum and Birla Temple. The trip ends in the evening and then you can have the rest of the day for shopping or roaming the streets of Jaipur before taking a train to Jaisalmer which takes 12 hours.

The two major attractions here would be the Desert Safari and local sight-seeing, so a minimum of two days is required in Jaisalmer, one for the Desert Safari and the other for sight-seeing. You can visit the Fort, the Haveli's and the Gadisar lake while sight-seeing all these places are close to each other and can be done on foot and that is a very good way to enjoy the city of Jaisalmer. You can end the day chilling at Gadisar lake or visit the sunset point which overlooks the city and the Jaisalmer fort.

The city of Jodhpur also known as the blue city is a very small city and the major attraction here is the Mehrangarh Fort which overlooks the city, other attractions would include the Jaswant Thada and the Ghanta Ghar which also acts like a mini shopping center for all your traditional and local material needs. You can have the famous Lassi at Ghanta Ghar and the famous Laal Maas at the Mehrangarh fort or the Kalinga Restaurant before taking an overnight bus to Udaipur.Mehrangarh Fort

This one is a big city also known as a city of lakes, I was here for not even a whole day but managed to cover all the major attractions. Starting with visiting Lake Fatesagar and ending it with a boat ride at Lake Pichola. In between that, you can visit the City Palace and the Karnimata Mandir which offers a beautiful view of the whole Udaipur City. Ending the day with a boat ride at Lake Pichola I caught a 7:00 flight home.
