Udaipur is a destination for the kings, It was a long held plan which came into effect when we decided to give it a visit. We landed at Jaipur airport stayed for a day and then started for the Udaipur journey. We booked a car which charged 6k for a 6:30 hour and 400km drive. There are other public transport options too if you are planning for Rajasthan, Non-AC bus fare ranges from 400- 800 and AC goes up to 1600, you could always choose buses for commutation, inter city buses are comfortable and affordable.
We started around 7:30 am hoping to reach Udaipur around 1 pm. our first destination was obviously the city palace. The day I chose to visit was apparently very busy and full of tourists. The queue for the entry ticket of Udaipur palace was very long and it cost us 100 rupees.
The palace has a very beautiful architecture. There is a garden in the balcony of the palace , which is possible due to the marvellous architecture design.
If you are interested in knowing the complete history you could hire guides for the palace tour. There are government authorised guides as well as audio guides available.
The palace has the spear ,armour and swords of king Maharana Pratap Singh. The spear weighs around 14kg and it is on display.
the royal wedding mandap is on display at the exit of the palace , which is believed to be a good omen for girls who want to get married.
The palace tour takes around 2.5 hrs , and could vary depending on the crowd.
After the palace visit you can go to visit karni mata temple, which is a very famous spot for sunset. So we headed to the opposite side of the palace across the lake for the sunset view. The sunset from this spot is between mountains and a lake. There is a park which charges around 15 rupees for an hour , where you could sit and enjoy the sunset. This spot is covered with cafes and all of them require pre booking.
