What is Galta Ji Temple

Galta Ji Temple is a complex of temples and natural springs located in a narrow valley on the outskirts of Jaipur. It is also known as the Monkey Temple, because of the hundreds of monkeys that live there. The temple is dedicated to Galtaji, an ascetic saint who is believed to have performed penance at this site. According to legend, he was granted a boon by the gods to create a spring of pure water that never runs dry. The spring fills seven sacred pools, or kunds, where pilgrims and visitors can take a holy dip. The temple is also a place of worship for the followers of Ramanandi, a Hindu sect that worships Lord Rama.

Galta Ji Temple Well, I went Galtaji templefrom Narayan Singh circle. This circle is like IFFCO chauk of Gurgaon. You will get the buses for different places which you may not get from the bus stand. However, I wasn’t aware of the route to Galtaji, after reaching Narayan Singh circle, I checked on Google maps. But I couldn’t figure out. Finally, I asked a traffic police officer. And then he told me that I need to take a cab for Transport Nagar Jaipur. I crossed the road and reached the stop. Here I took a shared cab to Transport Nagar which costed me just 10 rupees. Now from here, I took an e –riksha which dropped me at the entry gate of Galtaji Temple. And from here, I took a long walk. It looked like trekking. The mountainous path, through several ups and downs takes around half an hour. This temple is also known as Monkey Temple due to abundance of monkeys. Entry - Free Photography charges: 50 INR
Day 2 – Galtaji Temple Also known as the monkey temple, this is a pre-historic pilgrimage site located approximately 10km from the city. We were a little disappointed here as the temple itself was closed when we reached there & the water in the kunds had also dried off. We would still recommend this place, only do a little bit of research with the locals before reaching here. Entry: Free
On our third day in this city, we went to the Galta Ji temple, also known as the temple of monkeys. All around us were monkeys snatching food from tourists, foreigners amused clicking selfies with them and whatnot. While most of this temple was in ruins, I feel that that's where the charm also shone through of this temple.
