Florence is an absolutely beautiful city, so even if you only find yourself there for one day, there is plenty for you to do. It is vibrant, fashionable and authentic, so it is definitely worth spending the day there if you can. Here are some of the highlights of our day in Florence!
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazza Duomo
The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazza Duomo form a breath taking group of buildings which is one of the greatest pieces of architecture in all of Italy. The scale of the building is huge and each tiny part of the building is built to perfection.
The buildings are lined with beautiful bars and restaurants that you can make use of to eat delicious food and take in the scenery. You can actually visit the buildings, although it is advisable to book the tickets in advance to avoid big cues.
Ponte Vecchio Bridge
On your walking tour, you must visit Ponte Vecchio, a stunning arched bridge that is lined with beautiful vintage jewellery shops. The bridge was completed in 1345 and offers beautiful views so is a must visit. This is just one of 12 bridges in Florence, so perhaps if you have any spare time you could explore a few of the others.
La Buchetta Food and Wine Restaurant
Located in Palazzo Bardi just by the river, this restaurant is one of my most beautiful spots for dinner in Florence. The cosy interior makes you feel right at home, whilst the authentic Tuscan food will blow you away.
The fresh homemade pasta can’t be missed, so I’d recommend ordering a pasta dish each and then a few of the appetizers and first courses for the table to fully experience the delicious food. There is also a kids menu for the little ones! Finally, of course you can’t leave without trying to tiramisu…
Rasputin
To finish the night, head to Rasputin for a drink. Be prepared for it to turn into many more than just one drink, as you definitely won’t want to leave. It has a speakeasy vibe with a dark interior that is far too easy to get settled into. However, it can be quite difficult to get entry, so it is worth having a backup plan in place!
This secret bar is located just over the bridge from Florence town centre and if you do get in, you have to try the Delicious Little Devil cocktail! You’ll wish you were in Florence for more than just one day.
