Have you ever been to someplace where you thought that you travelled back in time for about 100 years?
Europe is known for its ancient places which are still maintained in an old-time way.
ASSISI and PERUGIA are some those places.
I went for a two-day solo trip just before this pandemic took over. This was a memorable trip. Hope everything goes back to place soon 🙏.
My journey started from ROME via speed train from Roma Termini station. Generally, it takes about 2 hours to reach Assisi.
Assisi is a small town on a hill located in the central part of Italy in Umbria region. It's known for the birthplace of St Francis.
There are buses every 30 min from station to the town centre (cost-€1), before you take the bus do visit "Basilica di Santa Maria Degli Angeli" which is about 1/2 km walk.

The bus took around 15 min to the centre. I would suggest wearing comfortable shoes because you will have to walk a lot. By a lot, I really mean a looootttt.
Assisi is a UNESCO world heritage site known for the magnificent medieval architecture.
I started by seeing what Assisi is known for, " Basilica of San Francisco"
It's a two-storey church with beautiful painting all over the walls of the church.
This is the place where Saint Francis was born and died. It is a Papal minor basilica and one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy.
The next stop was another beautiful church " Basilica di Santa Chiara" It is dedicated to Saint Clare and contains his remains, he was a follower of Saint Francis.
One my way to have lunch saw this another cathedral called " cathedral of San Rufino".This church was the third church built on the same site to contain the remains of bishop Rufinus of Assisi, martyred in the 3rd century.
Finally after walking soo much, was too hungry to handle and Assisi is also known for its truffle so being a foodie I have to try something with truffle.
Have heard a lot about this place for its good food.
So I ended up trying the dish suggested ie Truffle lasagna with sausage and mushrooms. (€ 9. 50) and house red wine (€5).it was awesome and so light and delicious. It's a must-have.
Assisi is a UNESCO world heritage site known for the magnificent medieval architecture and Beautiful lanes where you can get lost but will end up finding something more worth.
chilled a bit, had some coffee before continuing again.
this place is like a lost city where you have sooo much too see yet nothing to see.
After that fun lunch let move again to " roman forum and archaeological museum"
It's a gem and a perfect place to get all the answers to your questions. (entry is €5).
Walked more till the sunset and ended my day with some coffee and cheesecake.
And that's the end of the day one. 😍
I had my train at 7.30 from Assisi and it takes about half an hour to reach Perugia. From the station to my hotel it was showing 2km on the map, so I decided to walk which was a big mistake.
What a start of this place, before I tell you how my evening went here would like to give you some tips.
-Do not choose to walk unless you hotel/BnB/dorm is 200/300 metres away. Otherwise, choose a mini metro (€1.50 per trip).
- try coming early morning instead of the late evening if you are solo girl traveller, it's not about this place not being safe, it's easy to find a place using maps in the daylight.
- use the underground escalators to go up and down the hill. (this will not show on the map)
I ended up doing all these mistakes and it took me almost 2 hr to reach because I got lost on my way.
Reached my hostel around 10 pm and the good part was that the hostel (Little Italy boutique hostel- € 20 per night as I booked it last minute and this place is must recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐ )people mailed me about how to enter the place as the reception was closed.
Good morning Perugia.
I started my day with a walk, of course, I didn't have a detailed plan about where to start but it went pretty well. The lanes of this place are soooo anciently and scary and omg beautiful. I know I am sounding crazy. Check it on your own in the pics below.
In Perugia, all roads will lead you to Piazza IV Novembre. This historic square is one of the most picturesque squares in central Italy, with the three main sights of the city centre ( Priori Palace and the National Gallery, Cathedral, Fontana Maggiore fountain ) all located here. Perfect for pictures all year round.
After taking 100 pics I felt really hungry so I headed up to this open sandwich place called "Antica Porchetteria Granieri 1916". Serves really yummy pork sandwiches and I actually loved this so much that I had the same sandwich again for dinner 😂.
walked around here and there for a bit, saw some places selling hand-designed cutlery, really beautiful.
There is a BACI chocolate factory tour too here which is quite famous but unfortunately, I couldn't go because of a 1-day trip, but I definitely did get some yummy handmade chocolates.
have you ever seen the best sunset?
I have seen plenty of sunsets but this actually was the best sunset ever where you can see the whole city and one side is where the sun is setting and another side is where the moon is coming up. It's was so magical.
From here you can see the whole city below you and it's the most relaxing view, I sat there were hours and it was the best.
I loved Perugia a lot, I know I have missed a lot of places but will keep that for the next visit. See you soon Perugia.
looking forward to more awesome trips.
Take care for now.
Bye-bye.
