The place is known for its heritage and history. Turkey is 3% Europe and 97% Asia. It has got good infrastructure and yes not no miss is their amazing food, it is a non vegetarian paradise. Though I have noticed few restaurants also serving vegetarian food. Talking about Istanbul and what all to see, in the evening you must visit Bosporus and if possible the cruise for 2-3 hours. Next day morning wake up and have a heavy breakfast as you have to do lot of walking and visit all the heritage sites like Blue Mosque, Hagia Soohia, Topkapi Palace, Spice Market (Sunday closed so I can't see spice market)... Most of these attractions are in Sultanahmet. Best way to tour is take HOHO bus service. If you want to use public transport like I have done then use metro and tram service. Don't use taxi as most of them are thugs. Even if you use taxi then pre-negotiate the fare and don't go by meter. If possible stay near Taksim square the heart of Istanbul and till late night the place remains lively. From Taksim square metro station take a funicular (like metro) to cross the tunnel and from there a tram to Sultanahmet in just 8 euros you will reach Sultanahmet and you will love the tram route.
