Traveling to Israel is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity.

And while I spent about 10 days in the country, I was only able to explore a fraction of this amazing, gorgeous and memorable place that's totally unlike the places I have ever been to.

While most people go directly to the Holy Land in Jerusalem, be sure to take some time to check out Tel Aviv, the Middle Eastern capital of cool. This city best showcases the relaxed and cosmopolitan living of modern Israelis. This city has also been known as a mecca for European and Middle Eastern members of the gay community. The key word that is observed here in this elegant city is tolerance.

Marvel at the beauty of Old Jaffa and the long stretch of white beach facing the mighty Mediterranean, particularly the gay-friendly Hilton and Gordon beaches. Party or drink with locals in Florentine, Allenby and Dizengoff. Try some culture and elegance in Neve Tzedek. Go around town to see the Bauhaus structures.

In Jerusalem, join the tours and take a slow but meaningful tour around the Holy City. Take a pilgrimage to Biblical sites and take the path of the cross along the Via Dolorosa. Don't miss the Holocaust museum in Mt. Herzl.

A bus ride and an hour from Jerusalem, you can go to the West Bank and visit the Basilica of Nativity in Bethlehem. Take a side trip to the Milk Grotto and the Shepherd's Field. Appreciate the graffiti art of Banksy painted on the Israeli-Palestinian Wall.

Going south, don't miss the fortress of Masada and take a float on the Dead Sea with mineral mud coated around your body.

Ultimately, don't miss out the southern charm of Eilat and the nearby Red Sea (yes, the one parted by Moses) or the northern beauty of the Galilee.
