I hired a small compact vehicle preferably swift or alto as small vehicles are light and easily climb on mountains.
I started at 4 am on a fine Friday morning from Delhi in the winters as my ultimate aim was to witness the snow in abundance and reached Joshimath by 9 pm at night .
Traveling in chamoli belt is a bit tough as a lot of construction work is going on and the mountains are made up of mud so landslides are common in this area . You need to have time in hand and cannot rush .
It takes good 3 days to cover the following:
1. Chenab lake
2. Rudraprayag
3. Auli lake
4. Skiing
I did not visit gurso bugyal as it is not adviced in the winter trek
I chose to stay in Joshimath and went to Auli the next day.
There are two ways to reach Auli from Joshimath 1. Cable car 2. Hiring a local vehicle I chose the second option available as cable car gives you a restricted time interval to be there and then you have to return but if you hire your vehicle you can do take your own time and complete the trek at your own pace .Trekking in snow is a different feel altogether and even 1 km looks like 5 there but nothing can beat the experience of the lifetime .
The trick to start trekking is when you are climbing you have to rely on your toes and while coming down you have to make use of the heels the most . Don’t forget to take good comfortable light trekking shoes with you.
I witnessed one of the most beautiful and toughest treks of the country . It was beautiful and amazing beyond words and pictures
