Varakala - The Goa of Kerala

Tripoto

When planning a vacation, we always tend to think GOA is the best place with the best beaches. But, how about trying something new which is like GOA, in fact, a better version.

I am talking about this place called Varakala in Kerala. No, it’s not like you think. It is not all greenery. You will get to experience house boats like in other parts of Kerala, but this one, I must tell you comes with a hilltop view beach!

Don’t you already want to go there and click at it to your heart’s fill?

Here’s a sneak peak to it before you start packing your bags.

Beach View - Hill top

And now you are wondering how to get there ? here you go ! Hurry ( your next vacation is waiting already)

Flight – Train to Trivandrum and by road 45 minutes ( should approximately cost you 1200 one way AC)

Train to trivandrum / Varakla directly, but this should take you 36 hours

So I chose the flight to spend more time at varakala ☺

Now that you know how to get there, don’t you want to know the best places to eat and drink, and most importantly stay?

Stay

Hotel Inda, Bamboo tree house, Claffauti beach resort, kshetra beach resort are the hotels you can stay at which range from Rupees 1500-2500 per night and specially Hotel Inda (my preferred choice)( picture attached) has BNB and trust me, they have the most amazing mushroom pancakes and the choclate ones. Even if you choose another hotel, you must go there for these delectable pancakes

The museum and the papanasanam beach are famous and one must visit them when you’re there. You definitely do not want to miss the North cliff where you get to see a helipad and if you want to, you will actually be able to experience it. Yes, it is expensive but fully worth it.

Shopping

More shopping, cause priorities ;)

Food

It has a variety of fishes and prawns. The best of them are the grilled black fish (boneless). Ask them to make it extra spicy so it comes to a regular Indian’s spice level. For vegetarians, you can have like literally anything, especially pasta at Clafaoutti, momos at Coffee Temple or the vegetarian platter at the God's own country kitchen, you can just have anything and everything (and you will!). There won’t be beer served over the table but hey, don’t worry because they will pour you your gold in fancy glasses that look much muuchh better than bottles ;)

Day 3

The best time to visit this place is Summer, Winter, Spring or any time you need a break from the chaos that life can be. Oh, and one tip: you cannot drive everywhere here. So, be prepared to walk a LOT(which is actually not a bad thing at all considering how lazy we can get). One part of Varakala you can definitely drive your own vehicle ( Entrance and visiting the museum and etc) while other half of varakala is non dusty away from chaos as mentioned.

Perfect place to click Pictures

Few Important Tips

• You can ride your own bikes to the museum and to visit the non hilly part of varakala so yay. They Just ask for your ID proof, and a little of deposit which is refundable. (The hotel / hostel staff should help you with this)

• You Can get an amazing massage, in any masseuse parlour, its SUPER DUPER relaxing.

• Its better you carry cash, in case you want to shop, else cards are accepted in most of the restaurants usually for no surcharge else for a surcharge of around 2%

• For currency exchange there are a couple of counters open almost until 9:00 in the night both towards the south and north cliff's.

• There are a couple of tour and travel help desks, incase change of flight etc, one is right next to God’s own country kitchen.

• Incase you want to learn cooking, booom you can learn here, there are cooking classes that happen almost every 2nd hour at the bamboo tree house.

Before You tell me how it was, Happy vacationing people ☺
