The Uttarakhand government seems adamant on making the state the new tourist hub in India, if it wasn’t already. The government of Uttarakhand has declared plans to bring in 13 new tourist destinations that will boost tourist footfall in the state.
What's the plan?
With its new scheme, ‘13 district-13 destination’ the state government has shortlisted 13 new places and will focus on their development as new tourist hotspots. The project aims to bring one new tourist attraction in every district of Uttarakhand.
When does it start?
Sources state that a Shanghai-based New Development Bank is funding this project and has agreed to offer financial assistance of Rs 1,200 crore to the state government of Uttarakhand. The central government has already given the permissions for loans.
The work will begin only once a formal agreement is signed between the Shanghai-based bank and the state government.
What are we looking forward to?
New airstrips will be the prime focus since it will help improve air connectivity and boost tourism further, considering the terrain and location of the state.
Chaukhutia, Srinagar and Pabo are under consideration as the locations for the new air strips and expansion of the Pantnagar Airport is also a possibility.
As of now, the government is busy deciding the budget to be allotted for the development of these 13 destinations but looks like we'll have more weekend getaways in the state to look forward to, pretty soon!
