"Unexplored paths leads to undiscovered treasures", and believe me such paths are to most memorable ones. One of such path lead me to a beautiful village, OnaKona, near the banks of Mahanadi river. It is only 30 km away from my hometown, Dhamtari and 90 km away from the capital, Raipur.

Onakona village in itself is very beautiful, often marked as end shore of famous Gangrel Dam, but the centre of attraction here in this small town is Onakona Shivaji Temple.

Shivaji Temple, Onakona.

The architecture of the temple is inspired by Triyambkeshawar Jyotirling dham Nashik and is extraordinary in its beauty. The temple is still under construction, but that has never been barrier to the crowd it attracts throughout the year. Especially during the rainy season, the lush greenery around gives it an authentic countryside picturesque.

Things to do in Onakona

1. It makes a great picnic spot, peaceful and serene atmosphere with a view to behold is ideal for a day out.

2. If you love taking photos, this is the spot. Dhamtari people will agree that we have enough photos from Gangrel and Rudri Dams already, if looking for a change of profile picture, do visit this beautiful village. I guarantee you will return with your gallery full of great snaps.

Here some we took during our rainy day outing.
