Sailing across the world is no longer limited to a movie scene of the West or a pirate boat. You can now sail across India and the world in an Indian sailboat starting from December 2022.

Here's how the idea came into being:

A commander of the Indian Navy named Dilip Donde was selected to participate in the Sagar Parikrama project in the year 2006. The commander left Mumbai in 2006 and successfully completed his journey in 2010, becoming the first Indian to sail solo and unassisted around the world. But Donde no longer wants to explore the sea winds alone, so after completing one of his first lengthy excursions, between Goa and Mumbai, his new sailboat Antara is now ready to welcome anyone who wants to experience sailing on the high seas.

What's special about Antara is that those who sign up will not be mere passengers on a sailboat, but they'll be actual sailors operating the ship. Although there won't be a formal training or certification.

It's gonna be the world's longest river journey:

Antara is all set for its 51 days long journey which is supposed to be the longest river journey in the world. "The Grand Cruise" journey will begin from Uttar Pradesh's Kashi, sailing through the Ganges and Brahmaputra along with 27 small rivers, across five states and two countries culminating in Dibrugarh, Assam. Within India, it will cover places like Bihar, West Bengal and UNESCO recognized Sundarbans. Overseas, it will take guests to places in Bangladesh like Bagerhat, Barisal and, Dhaka.

You can now seek adventure in the sea on an Indian sailboat to destinations in India and abroad like Mumbai-Goa, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Maldives, Mauritius and beyond. Passengers need not to worry about anything as they will be in experienced hands. Captain Dilip Donde, a retired Naval officer, is one of India's most famed sailors. His first mate Sucheta Jadhav, is also a skilled sailor; she crewed in the 2017-19 Clipper Round the World Race, sailing across the South Atlantic from Punta del Este to Cape Town.
